Default Found a ASC McLaren Capri today 4 sale

Well i was driving around today and i saw a capri sitting in a field with a 4 sale sing in window. Took a look and it says ASC McLaren on the doors and hood. 1985 5.0 5-speed. Car is complete, but the paint is bad and the ground effects are trashed. Don't know what they want yet, but it looks like it sat in a barn the last 2 years. looks like it was dark blue originally and has orange lettering and stripes on the sides. I figured she was a rare one! It is NOT a convertable either! I forgot to get the VIN but i'll get it and maybe you guys can help me find out about it! I'll try to get pics also. I just hope he don't want an arm and a leg for it!! By the way I'm new here, but not new to FOX body's. I own a 1987 turbo 4 cyl notch and just sold my 1986 SVO 2 months ago.

I took these pictures with my cell phone so they aren't the best. There is one of the VIN so if someone wants to verify this is real that would be sweet! It still has the McLaren Horn Pad. What is up with the 165 speedo? i thought they were 140 MPH speedos according to the McLaren site. The guy said he is looking to get $1200 for it so im thinking that means best offer! Let me know what you guys think. The interior is there, but it is kinda rough. seats are good, window reg's have a board on the pass side. there is a dent behind the rear passenger door. I didn't put the picture of the back of the car on here because of the guys TAG number. He said it does Start and Drive and go through the gears, 3rd has a bad synchro he thinks. Tomorrow evening i will meet up with him to hear it run and drive it i guess.

Thanks for coming over and posting the pics. It looks fairly complete and if it runs and drives the price of $1200 doesn't seem out of line to me. I'm not sure if they came with the ten holes though?

Those didn't come with the 10 hole wheels, they did have orange mesh wheels. You might ask the seller if he has the original wheels available.

I'm seriously interested in the car, if you're not. Did you see any rust or other body damage other than the dent and ground effects issues?

Please feel free to PM or email me via the web board.

That's the same kind of McLaren that I just bought.

The thing that sucks about the McLarens is that if they are missing the unique parts it can be really expensive to restore it.

I don't think the 85 vins got saved so Mike is going to want to add this one I think. The only way to tell if an 85 is an asc is to look at the buck tag, or the DSO, I think. As stated before go to ascmclaren.org and you will get all the info you could ever want. The ground effects and wheels will run a pretty penny unfortunatly.

I like to save rare foxes, i had an SVO earlier this year so i know the pain/joy of having a rare one!

If the car is accident free...with clear title just hand him $1200. It's worth it. If you wait until the weekend it's probably going to be sold already .

The 1985 vins are not known. A vindictive bitch at asc shredded them.

The vin does fit into the current list nicely and appears to be in probably the first batch of cars.

Look on the radiator support for TWO metal tags. That's how you will know it is genuine. If they are gone, the car is probably still an asc since it has a 6 digit DSO on the door tag!

ASK the guy what was done to the car! ASK ASK ASK!

What radio does it have? Kenwood or Alpine? asc coupes did NOT get STOCK Ford radios! Or rear speakers! Or rear speaker covers! Subsequent owners TOSS these in the TRASH because they think they are NOT ORIGINAL!

Where are the WHEELS! They probably got bent up at some point but it's cheaper to get them restored than buy new ones.

Does it still have the AIR HORNS?

Here is a check list of items that should be on the car:
    http://www.ascmclarencoupe.com/ascParts/

No idea on the speedo...probably added by a previous owner.

Does not have a radio in it anymore, I noticed rear Kenwood speaker covers, don't remember looking for the horns. I'll stop by today and check out the rad support and look for horns. Thanks for the Help guys i really appreciate it!

Silly boy! You won't see horns on the radiator support! They are VERY VERY VERY well hidden under the bumper cover! Look on the driver's side front frame rail in the engine compartment for the air horn compressor!

Take a picture of the speaker covers please! They sound ORIGINAL! VERY VERY VERY RARE ITEMS!!!!!!

The radios DO come up once and a while. Your car is not far from mine in VIN so I bet it got the KENWOOD KRC-2001 Cassette radio!

    I BOUGHT IT!!!
It is a legit ASC it has the radiator support tag. still has both air horns, they dont sound healthy though. Here is the thing. It has an edelbrock performer intake with a holley double pumper carb. I found the numbers on the back of the block, but how do i know if it is the stock motor? The numbers dont match the vin that i can tell. Is that what they should do?? The deck was alpine cassette and the guy said he would try to see if he still has it. The speakers in the rear are pioneers and the ones in the back are jensens both not stock im guessing. This thing RUNS like a bat out of hell though, and the tranny feels tight, so does the suspension and brakes. very little rust i mean very little! I'm gonna clean it up tomorrow and then ill post more pictures i guess if anyone is interested. The exhaust is all rusted out and hangin down too, but it has the chrome tails still and the rear valence is perfect! all glass is good! well im pretty excited about it (if you can't tell) and i appreciate all the help you guys gave me! I'll be around on this board more often now! -Nathan

'85 was carbed, '86 was EFI.

The only '85's that had fuel injection was the automatics but they had CFI. I dont think any of the McLaren coupes came with autos but I know the convertibles did.

The engine has been changed. I'd be suspicious of accident damage, since the stripes are missing from one side.
