    Default Opperation SVO Tunes....

Is officially under way... After getting closer to putting the interior back into the svo, and thanks to watching overhauling I dug out my old drawings and layed out the parts for my new speaker box. The basic Idea was to relocate the the 5x7's so they don't cancell one another out. Plus add in a pair of 8inch woofers and the amp to run them while taking up the least amount of space possible. What I came up with is shown below.

So with help from daddy and his skill saw, we have cut out the bottem, back plate, sub section face, and the sub section top so far. I know I should be using 3/4 mdf, but these two 3/4 remanants were free leftovers from puting the floor down in grandmas bathroom.

This is about where the two subs and the amp will be, plus I tossed a couple of scraps in to show the faces for the what will be 6x9 sections....

Hope get the other 7 peaces cut out on monday and tuesday....

I have a similar setup in my '83, except I have 10" subs, and it sits up off the floor about 4" so I have room to store the t-tops. The amps are installed in the spare tire well, with all wiring under the carpet. I'll get some pics when weather allows...

For the record they're 6x8s not 5x7s . Looks like a good setup cause thats the thing about using a regular box is it eliminates the back speakers. Keep the pics comin!

Ya I knew it was one or the other, plus I keep kicking around the idea of putting 6x9's in because I have the room...

    Update time!

So on tuesday dad and I attacked the box again we still have a fair amount of cutting to do.....

Here is a little rick dads using to get the closest cut possible. Lay out a straight edge, clamp it, make a cut with the saw, and use the caliper to gauge the distance away from the straight edge to cut right on the line. Remember to take your measurement on both sides of the cut to account for the blade thickness depending on what side of the line your cutting.

Now with the tops to the 6x9 boxs cut out, doing a little mock up no glue....

Line up inside and matching sides that need same angle cuts so you can take it in one shot.

    6x9 outsides done....

Insides are done, both needed a little triming...

Right part two covers the rest of what dad and I did tuesday and tonight.....

Having reached the point where we needed to actualy need to start assembling the box the bottem and back plates were marked so we could drill and counter sink the screw holes.

Add some wood glue, 1 5/8 sheet rock screws, and volala...

Next up was to cut out and nail the center sub divider in....

With that in place the top of the sub section was nailed in place.

Dad at the point of "I've had enough."

Got the 6x9 inners glued and nailled in place...... EM GET IT!!!

Update time over the past few weeks progress on the box has been slow, but the progress made is good. Dad and I got the last two parts cut out, the 6x9 showed up and this is the result.

Using the templates from the 6x9 box I centered the holes, drilled starters for the saw and wolla.

So that was the past progress, now for todays progress. First we filled all the gun holes with putty. Then after sanding everything with 80 grit, the fiberglass resin was mixed up and applied to everything but the bottem of the box.

    Update time!

This month had a theme, put some stuff on only to sand it off. After the last layer of resin was applied and sanded somewhat smooth I covered the hole box in bondo. Bondo is such a PITA, no mater what you do you put more on than you need then you have to sand it off and some times you have to put some more on. In the end this is what I was left with...

At this point I thought I could get away with dupli-color light fill primer. But once it was on I noticed that I had some trouble area's that were going to need high fill primer. The light fill is dark grey, and the high fill was light grey.

The filler primer was sanded down with some 220grit sand paper, washed down and dried. For paint I used dupli-color HVP111 interior trim paint to match the svo pannels.

Next on the to do list is; add sound deading, wire/mount the speakers, build the grills, mount the amp, and add my motion prevention devices.

    So stay tuned!
