Smile Thoughts on 79 Turbo RS?

A friend of mine wanted to know if I wanted to save another rare Capri or not and I said yes (of course ). Some buddies of his have it and were going to turn it into an aero They lost interest in the project I guess and want it gone. If no one buys it (mainly if I don't) it will go to the crusher. My dad sounded like he wanted to keep it from going to the crusher as well (good sign).
Just wanted some opinions on the car or thoughts from fellow FEPers. I know its not the rarest year for turbo RSs, but it is factory black with tan interior, sunroof, and Tan(or coral? or even faded green??). The motor and trans is gone too (they might still have it, idk) Very neat car, but needs work. Nothing I can't handle

Capri Problem? I thought hoarding Capri's and Mustangs on this site was normal?

Have a couple more Capri's in my sights too. Could get both for cheap too. Someday, someday

And it looks like the turbo has the Chamois interior!!!!!!!!!

At the very least, save all of the good parts that have any value, like bumper covers, hood scoop, grille, steering wheel, door panels, and even the non-original spoiler and quarter windows (did they cut out the openings to get those in?).

The conversion was goin good, until the beer started flowin'!

I've always like the old RS Capris. What's been done to the motor? Still the carb'd turdbo? or does it have a 350?

You definitely have your work cut out.... and not just with this one. I say go for it! You're only young once.

Well darn. Thought it was the chamois seeing the only nonfaded part of the door panel.

Part out is not an option
No motor or trans, don't know much more about the car other than what I've already said. Will learn more this weekend hopefully

I say it can't hurt to save it from the crusher. I'm sure at this point you could make a little steady income just selling parts from all your parts cars on here.
    Good Luck

Poor Capri... looks pretty rough and would take a lot of work and money to get it back to decent condition. Even though I've restored these cars from the ground up many times, I'd still think twice before I took on that project. Everyone here knows how much I love Capris and hate to see one parted out.... I hate to say it, but this may be it's destination.

There is nothing wrong with saving it. But you need to ask yourself " how many projects can I finish? and Which one do I want to enjoy first?" with too many projects, they will drain you of resources, and you won't finish them. Perhaps it would be best to find someone who really wants to restore it.

I say, restore it, out an EFI turbo 2.3 with some power mods, some nice suspension, clean it up, and it sure would be an awesome car! good luck with the project man!

Thanks everyone. If a fox is not severely totaled, rusted out, or stripped, it is savable. I would absolutely hate myself if I parted out a savable Turbo RS

I shall find these photos you wish to see

Here are some of the cars my dad has painted/restored. They are customer cars unless I say otherwise. With my dads two jobs, and everyone wanting their cars done tomorrow, my dad really hasn't had much time for our cars. He is getting laid off from his sheriff deputy job June 1st. It is a very good thing, we will finally be able to do our cars and sell some of them to make money and my dad can finish all the other jobs he has going. Buy, restore, sell = profit

    My 86 Caprice

69 Firebird repaint from black to yellow.

85 Camaro repainted. Was a basket case paint wise before my dad and I started.

    90% finished 84 GT350

68 Firebird (this car is my dream car) repainted. Had a cruddy dealer repaint on it before.

My dad also did the body and paint work on these 3 54 Porsche speedster prototypes. They were flawless jobs.

Everyone but the silver one my dad did the body and paint work on. They sold at auction for over a million each. They all went to the Porsche Factory in Germany too. One of the red ones won its class at Pebble Beach Concour de Elegance. (says A LOT about my dads work). My dad would average around 1000 hours in body and paint time on each car.

My dad has done close to 1000 cars from fixing a fender to complete restorations since he got out of high school in 1980. Everything from Volkswagens to million dollar Porches. Pretty much everything imaginable.

If we wanted to, we could take a fox Mustang or Capri and make it the most perfect (body and paint wise) out of all the Mustangs or Capri's out there. We won't do that because we don't have the time or desire to make something we couldn't drive.

The yellow one is a 9 sec, all pontiac powered beast. Originally it was a straight 6 Sprint.

And this is a different Turbo car than the one I had told you about long ago. The charcoal 84 RST is gone now. People moved.

Looks like as far as they got was the GT wing, 87-93 Quarter windows and 90-93 interior panels. I am partial to the flat-back Capri's, I don't really like the bubbles. That being said, as long as it is a fair price, get it!
