I think there's plenty of info out there if you google it. I just want halogen replaceable bulb type headlights for my Zeph, but whenever I search for that, all I get is HID stuff, which I don't want. Good luck though, hopefully someone on here has done it!

Mike, check your grounds. They are on each corner of the core support.

I put four Euro "E-code" H4 and H1 Bosch conversion headlights on my 86. Also did the relay mod. Huge difference. Both Susquehanna (http://www.rallylights.com/) and Daniel Stern (http://www.danielsternlighting.com/home.html), among others, carry both the 4-eye and 2-eye rectangular housings for the conversions.

Love your post gtracer. The E code light issues with respect to H1/H4's is a pre 1985 one which DOT/NHTSA haven't decided to endorse, but lots of people get away with them, and although illegal, its legal elseware, and Ford overturnd the NHTSA's ruling by playing hardball with a bunch of technocrats who didn't want to change. Don't get me wrong, the NHTSA does much more good than harm, and has some truly enlightened, technically savy people, but a lot of progressvice movement on lighting is lobied out by conservative thinking with respect to the rule of law. A four eyed 4 by 6 -5/8" lamp in E code is a good thing, and why should E codes be illegal?.

HID's though, its different, and requires a little more info,

So there is no way to get a Fox body HID kit from Daniel Stern. He is generally anti HID generic retrofit kit. For the reasons outlined.

Here are some downloadable PDF tests done by DOT and CalCoast Labs on halogen headlamps equipped with "HID kits":
Test #1, with 9004 "HID kit" vs. 9004 bulb See http://dastern.torque.net/techdocs/H..._HID_Retro.pdf

Test #2, with 9006 "HID kit" vs. 9006 bulb See http://dastern.torque.net/techdocs/H..._HID_Retro.pdf

Test #3, with 9004 "HID kit" vs. 9004 bulb See http://dastern.torque.net/techdocs/H...ID_Retro_a.pdf

    Nyet to overpower bulbs too.http://www.candlepowerinc.com/pdfs/I...verwattage.pdf

And he is pushing for a more intelligent debate rather than the half hearted 1939 to 1985 style intransigence and nominalizm to the current isssues of headlamp glare and good seeing for the driver. The NHTSA's FMVSS 108 needs to be revised to understand headlamp leveling influences the ability for HID's to protect drivers from glare, while championing landmark, world beating good seeing.

Yet again, the healthy debate has been quashed, and its only Ford, with its historical triad trumps of

    1) intergated lamp 38 Ford V8,
    2) the landmark integrated lamp Lincoln LSC and
    3) the HID Lincoln Mark 8

Those were advances that people in America can be proud of, that pushed the envelope for the consumer, and has given its cars personality.
