Thread: 86 coupe!

  1. #1

    Default 86 coupe!

finally after waiting about 25 years to own a fox i have one, just picked this one up today. the body is pretty rough, was hit back around 90 and they did a quick cover up job but its a carolina car so other than rot under the spare tire the metal is solid. wheel wells look good, trunk lid is good, floors look good other than a crack from the accident.

5.0 AOD with AC, blue on blue, runs and shifts like a champ. has a 93 engine in it but retains the 86 intake so its still speed density. have to try and figure out all the details of the boltons.

not sure what im going to do with, i was hoping the body would be a little cleaner but for the price I'm happy. may just turn into a ratty summer driver, may go for a full restoration, have to figure out what im willing to spend on it.

got to love NY, trailered it home 200 miles and it got a nice salt bath.

not sure yet, original plans where a restomod, now i have to figure out how much body work im willing to do. may just clean it, prime it and drive it, got about 5 months to think about it before NY weather will allow it to be put on the road.

90% of that was in the first 20 miles of the trip home, and it was on a trailer the entire way. the snow wasn't even sticking, WTF NY?

if i repaint it its probably going to go to the stock color with some pearl added just to make it stand out a little. going to be a while before its ready for that though. Im in Syracuse. a bit north of you guys, but if you ever head up this way let me know, and grab me a growler or two of Mothers Milk from Brick House Brewery!

I love Brick House!! Awesome, you know the hot spots.

This was on a lot of people's radar. What happened with the polished wheels? This car has great potential. Glad we've added/kept two more 86s in NY.

Only been to long Island one time for a week for work. found Brick house, loved it! mothers milk may be my all time favorite beer!

I told the previous owner to keep them, I have other plans for wheels so to save a couple bucks i told him to hold on to them. He still has them and would probably sell them for you 10 hole fans.

ya its the same car in the pic, the body is way worse than those original shots make it look, but i think its salvageable, probably need a new 1/4 and we will see how bad the rest is once i start to get the repaint off it. there was 0 prep in the repaint, they actually sprayed right over the pinstripe.

so im sitting at working thinking about the multiple directions i can take this car and im wondering how rare the build is. i can pull the numbers off the door when i get home, but since you guys are so knowledgeable, what color is this considered? the most popular blue only saw 254 5.0 coupes in 86 from what i can tell, not sure it this is that color or not until i get home. curious to how many where blue interior auto ac cars, not that it means a ton, but its cool to know the build numbers on your own car.

The color blue looks to be dark shadow blue metallic, 7B would be the paint code but this might not be the original color like you said so check when you get home.

That 254 is a UNCONFIRMED number as well as the total coupe V8 production number total being 2825...as for blue interior, auto and A/C I'm sure there are not too many around.

you can see the original color on the roof where the 2nd coat pealed off. looks pretty close to stock. i figured it was an estimate, too bad the actual numbers arent out there. In reality it wont mean much, still cool to say its a 1 of!

Just imagine your car...with more faded paint and rust. Same paint code and blue interior.
