Default Making your own door panel backing board???

Hey guys I remember someone saying on here that they used mdf board from lowes to make their door panels and headliner board but I can't find it. Does anyone know how thick it has to be. I would like to get the ones from FMR but my wallet won't allow it and the car wont be that nice to get those.....for now .

Well after much searching on here I found that some guys have used peg board material w/o the holes and it works good. Lowes has a 4' x 8' 1/8" board for $8 . I will have enough to do 3 SETS of backing boards! I will make another thread with a build on the door panels.

Pegboard without holes is tempered hardboard. Two types available: tempered and regular.
Tempered= more water resistance, impact resistance, hardness, rigidity and tensile strength.

If u can find some, try looking for marine board, its a panel board and 1/8 to a 1/4 in thick, u just have to cut the holes out with a punch, its what I use

If we could find some hard plastic - that would be much better. My del sol's door panels are plastic. That way - it will never warp. And that is molded plastic. For the mustang, it would be a lot easier since it is just flat.....

I used compressed pvc foam board, you need to get it from a place that makes vinyl sign boards. It can be heated and formed. I used it for the trunk, headliner and door panels, I liked the idea that it was water proof.
Package tray

Door panels

trunk pieces

headliner

great stuff, cheap too, good luck.
