Default This is why you don't build really fast cars from time capsule cars

Because this can happen. That poor poor coupe.

When I see videos of stuff like that happening, I start thinking about how many passes I've made down a drag strip in the last 25 years and all the shoe boxes filled with time slips. Then I start wondering if my luck will eventually run out and something like that will happen to me..

That sucks. It looks like as soon as he hit the dip in the track he started to lose it.

Wow! That was a hard hit. If you looked at his dial in time of 12.13, that's not much faster than what I normally run. I hope that I never hit the wall and ruin the Cobra. I also hope that anybody here never hits the wall either.

Two years ago, I saw a very nice aeronose hatch hit the wall at New England Dragway. The driver went straight all the way down the track but when he reached the timing lights, his oil line on the supercharger let go and it sprayed the track down with oil. His rear slicks went through the oil and he instantly turned left, went across the other lane and hit the wall head on at 116 mph. He too, was o.k. but the car was totalled.

It's not a fun sight to see.

Well couldnt find video, but couple years ago, one big block classic chevy, street driven drag car made a really bad crash. That car was destroyed. 200km/h and away from track....

Ouch. I would not call that car a time capsule example, however. It was modified.

Holy crap that coupe completely left that Z in the dust. Shame he crashed. That hit was probably 100x harder then it looked from 100 feet away

I realize that that car is far from a time capsule. However, it goes to show that ANYTHING can happen. I am far from being anti-drag racing, but just because you are on a drag strip does not mean that the car can't get wrecked.

This is exactly why there is a MM 6 point, good belts, and always a helmet in my car. The drop of the ET break from 11.99 to 11.49 for a roll bar was driven by money, not safety.

I see this at least twice a year at our track, probably more last year with the Vette's and GT500's at TnT's. Also, almost all of them I've seen have been around the 1/8th mile mark, not on the big end (I know Irwindale is 1/8th)

Whether or not that was a time capsule car aside, I cant imagine ANYONE building a race car (street or otherwise) out of a time capsule car.

After all, what kind of a person would ever ever do such a thing? I cant imagine it being anyone with respect for a vehicle or our hobby.

x2

if you are gonna do it, get a driver, not a time capsule

this does make you wonder, what really would have happened, if that wall wasnt there, because they were on the street...

I dont understand the references to "Time Capsule" Car...

Dont take this the wrong way but its an early 80's fox that someone loved enough to make it go like stink!

P.S. Just because a car is fast/raced does not make it a race car....

Anyway just as many have mentioned, Every time you take your car to the track you have put yourself in a very dangerous, and possibly costly position!

You may not even be the one who causes the crash, but that possibility is always there!

For anyone who was at Corral Day 2002 you had seen the Crash where I was Racing a friends 99 Cobra when the 2004 Ragtop Hit the wall behind me in my lane!

There I was a couple of thousand miles away from home, Racing in car owned by a guy whom I had only seen in person 2 times but knew from the internet.

http://www.ragtop-racing.com/Pics/Co...eos/green2.wmv

As you can see I left hard on him which really saved me, as he had more nitrous then he had brains and even though his tires were smoking right away he still stayed in it till he lost control and hit the wall on my side!

You cannot control what any other driver will ever do at a race track, you have to be aware that bad things can happen in the blink of an eye...

And be able to react!

I watched the whole thing happen in the rear view mirror, it was truly something to remember!

Time Capsule is in the titleof this thread, that is where the references are coming from. The car is not a time capsule. It is not original and is not a pristine vehicle. Anything can happen at any time. I believe the point of the video is that it was better to happen at a controlled environment than on the streets putting many others lives in danger.

I guess thats the point I was trying to make, that car had nothing in common with a time capsule....

There is no question as to the point of the video, I plan on sending the link to our local "Street Legal" comittee at our track unless TJ Chimes in that she has seen it (ponygirl408 )...

the reference to time capsules is that someone here had a buddy that was building a drag machine out of a incredibly clean early fox and people were telling him it would get ruined, this is why it would get ruined.

I've seen it happen several times, not only drag built cars but daily drivers that were just at the track to see what it does.
