Default Trim paint

What kind of paint and color would i want to use to paint the trim on my 85 GT. The trim around windows and such is faded and doesnt look the greatest, i was going to paint it black, but now i don't want to. I want to keep it the charcoal or grey or what ever the color is called. What is the best way to do this? Is there a rattle can color that is close or right on? What brand? I'm just curious because everytime i go over to the other garage and see my dad's clean vert i all of the sudden want to focus on making mine look better.

SEM. Charcoal Bumper Color.

Dark Smoke os very close as well as Medium smoke.

You can go with Dark Smoke if you want it a bit darker than stock but still stand out like it's supposed to.

Use SEM.

Yep SEM Charcoal 39153 is what I used on my whole capri.

Lower body, moldings, trim, mirrors, cowl, around windows, bulge scoop, wing, tail light housings, you name it.

That is one sweet car! I also used SEM on all the exterior black parts and the interior trim plastic. Most automotive paint stores carry it.

Cans are around $10-12 bucks a can.

Here is a locator.
http://semproducts.com/cms/Where+To+Buy/13.html

I get mine from a local Autobody Supply shop.

Awesome, thanks for the locator link. And Wow, nice car capriman. I love the looks of the capris. Almost had one for my first car, but my dad said no (even though it was only a 4 cyl auto).

Hey Jeff - is this also an acceptable match for the Marchal covers? Looks to be dead on!

Another question.....my '85 GT has the lower TT charcoal treatment like your car. As far as I can tell it is all original, but my driver door has an area that is faded....almost like it has been "over polished". Drives me nuts! If the lower TT is indeed all original do you think this 39153 paint would be a close enough match to paint just the lower door area without having to paint all of the lower?

I just painted the hatch trim using SEM Charcoal 39153 and it's dead on! It's not very forgiving though as far as filling so make sure you have your trim as smooth as can be!!

Oops sorry I missed this.

I use the 39153 on the covers I restore and they come out very very close.
I think you might see where you touched up if you try the SEM on a factory finish...not really sure on that.

And yes, you must get your trim SMOOTH or used a high build primer first.

Yes, I have used that exact paint and it matches NOTHING. Back before FMR got into business in a big way, my last order with LMR included a can of that...and it was a weird grey. Didn't match the NOS exterior mouldings I had or even the interior grey.

Didn't say I was going to buy from them!

Just asking a simple question because I had not seen it mentioned in any other response.

It's come up before a few times but I doubt you'd be able to search it out of this message board.

I also got some of the interior black. That was also flatter than I cared for.
