Arrow Who runs no wipers?

I'm contemplating deleting my wipers, motor, everything on the notch. The car wont be a DD but it will be driven to and from the track (autocross) and the occasional Stang meet.
Who runs no wipers with something like Rain-X? Comments??
Oh yeah, I'm in Florida.

Wipers are always a good thing to have. If it was trailered and only for the things you mentioned I would say delete them.

I haven't messed with wipers in a while but can't you just delete the passenger side only? Then just remove the wiper arm on the driver's side at the track? Are you just doing it for weight reduction?

I don't think it would make much difference for just auto-x?

Well, living in here sometime you just need wipers. Rain may come anytime, even when youre at the track.

Main reason is I'm fabbing up a cowl air filter inside the area where the wiper arms are. It would be easier to just delete them.

im going to delete mine but im just using the caps that you can buy at upr, getting them powdercoated black then carrying a set of wipers in the trunk just in case.

Some states require them , Oregon is one of those .
Don't have to have a windshield , but have to have the wipers , and they have to work !

I rain-x'd the windshield but have yet to test it against the rain. I don't take it out in rain but have wondered what would happen if I got stuck in a downpour

I deleted mine by using copper plumbing end caps for 1/2" copper pipe. if you pinch them ever so slightly with a pair of channel locks they slip on the splined posts with just a little resistance and then spray them semi gloss black to match the widow trim they'll pretty much disappear. If you aren't trailering the car then you can't say you won't get stuck in the rain. And rain-x won't keep other elements from smearing your view. Besides you'll just have a gaping hole in your cowl panel.

In a downpour, the rain would run off lthe windshield like it runs off your hatch. STill whats the point of not having windshield wipers?

I deleted the wipers on my 94 and did the rain-x thing and let me tell you.....if it downpours the rain-x is useless unless you are going 40mph or faster. I'll keep mine.

I guess I should have explained the reason for my question a little better. I'm going to run a cowl induction setup inside the cowl itself. The air filter will be in the area where the passenger side arm is. The inner wiper rod mechanics need to be removed form the passenger side, thus leaving the driver side inoperative also.

You should be fine as long as you don't drive it in the rain. I would also check with state laws and see if you are required to have them for state inspection (if that even applies to Hawaii)

Here in florida rain can come anytime, I have always kept wipers. However if it is going to interfere with you set-up then you won't have much choice.

I run rain-x on my car most all the time and i hardly ever have to use the wippers, i was contemplating deleting them as well. But like someone said up there, when your sitting still the rain-x doesn't do much, especially in that speed range where the wind is keeping it from falling but gravity is keeping it from sliding upwards. I would say you would be fine as long as you don't have to sit in traffic in a downpour.

ps i like how NO ONE on here told the guy to just go with a different setup. HA cosmetics and semi-functional things must always be done away with if they are hindering our performance. LOL

I love rain-x. Even at slow speeds, the water may not run off, but it beads and if you look through it and not at it (the windshield) it still helps a lot instead of the layer/sheet of water without it. If you plan to run it on the street at all check local laws though. As mentioned a few times above they may be required. I think someone even mentioned our state-- No need for a windshield, but you must have functional wipers.

.. let me be the first then to suggest a different air filter system.
The setup in that first pic is for a dedicated race car, and it is leading to a huge intercooler and icebox, probably sitting in the passenger seat. Is that what you're planning on doing? Otherwise I'm not sure I see the function. There isn't going to be any kind of ram air function, although I supposed it will be cold, maybe even a little colder than the fenderwell. Not trying to be a downer, but I know I've been caught in sudden downpours, stuck in traffic on the way home, with worn out wiper blades and it sucks. If you're really stuck on the idea, I would suggest finding a way to keep the drivers arm functional, even if it means cutting/fabricating the rods.

Default Anyone else recognize John Vermeersch's Starliner?

I've seen that thing running at 140 plus at Ford's utterly HUGE oval test track in Romeo MI. Impressive, to say the least. Both the car and the track. If I remember right the track is 7 miles around!

I had a 61 Starliner for a few years. Mine had "only" a 428 SCJ in it. With a top loader 4 speed. My brother has it now, minus the engine. If you gotta sell your Hot Rod, sell it to family, you still get to enjoy it, and maybe you can get it back someday.

Sorry for the Hi-jack.

Up here in MI, our hot rods may not have heat, but not having wipers is not an option. I wish I could be rid of 'em. The cowl area could be used for a lot of things other then windshield wipers.
