So I searched and searched but I'm just confused.
I have a 302 roller transplant in my 86. I pulled the starter and found the following numbers: A big 24, under that E7TE, and under that a small CA. I think its a 87 truck engine am I close? Thanks! Last edited by KAILUAZ; 11-16-2007 at 10:47 AM. Reason: Added all engine numbers |

It's an '87 and LATER truck block. To know the exact year you need the date casting, which is in the same area.

Ill have to look at the date casting once I pull it (thats the dial looking thing correct?).
There are people saying truck engines didnt come with a roller cam? Any truth to that? The head casting numbers are E6SE. No idea if the pistons are flat, the heads are still on. Last edited by KAILUAZ; 11-06-2007 at 05:01 PM. |

The dial looking thing is the shift and time.
The date casting will be a number, then a letter, then one or two more numbers. |

The date casting looks like a metal tag attached with 2 screws .
It is not of course , but looks like it .

I just found the partial VIN, HX214448, so its a 87 out of the St Thomas plant, sequence number is between 100001 and 600000 which makes it a Crown Vic engine.
