    Default 79 Cobra - Probably a Non-Survivor

I seen this car sitting outside of a body shop several weeks ago while on the way to a doctors appointment. Today I figured that I'd stop and see how good of shape it was in and if it was a legit Cobra. Well what I found is rather disappointing. There is half an inch of water sitting in the center console area where the e-brake handle is. Probably from the rotted out area around the sunroof. The floors are completely rotted out and there are rubbermaid 10 gallon tote lids keeping the animals out. The quarters are rotted at the bottom of the quarter windows and are soft the entire way down to the rocker panels. Cowl Panel rotted through. Engine is a 2.3T but half torn apart and the turbo is missing, front bumper cover is soft and spongy. Couldn't get a pic of the buck tag but I did see CBR at the beginning of the last line. Looks like the only salvageable items are the Cobra specific interior emblems, tail lights, back seat, hood scoop and maybe steering wheel.

VIN is 9F03W224171 if anyone wants to decode it.

It's sad to see it in that shape... there is one in my home town the same color as that one but I think it has a 5.0L in it, the guy has owned it for many years... I'm going to try and get a few pictures of it and if I do Iwill post them.

I used to own a cobra identical to that. Its cool to see but that one is in pretty sad shape it seems.

Thats a good one for the lost and found foureyes section.

So that's what my car will look like when it's ready to be put out to pasture. On a side note, there are many parts that can be stripped off of it and sold to save another foureye. The Cobra medallions on the interior door panels and dash, and the "engine turned dash bezels can be sold to someone who's restoring a Cobra and who may need them.

The rest of the car could be parted and items such as the glass, seatbelts, trim around the windows and other parts can be sold too. It looks like a good car to part out.

I am trying to get in touch with the guy who owns it if he is still alive. Apparently it was taken in for repair back in 95 and the owner (who now would be in his mid 80s) never paid the shop owner or came back for the car. The shop has changed hands about 7 times since then and the car hasn't moved at all until 3 weeks ago when it was moved outside the fince at the body/repair shop. I talked to the current shop owner and he wants it gone. I think he moved it outside so that the city finds it sitting on the street without tags/inspection in hopes that they impound it. I am going to stop back the end of the week and see if he has any contact info on it. If not I will find out if he will contract me to remove it from his property at which time I can impound it and sue for ownership.

Just get the car with a bill of sale from the shop owner and then you can use a titling service if you need to get a title to it.

Pete - I totally agree with you! If the Cobra is too far gone lets get the parts out of it and reuse them for another Cobra so that this Cobra can live on in with its parts at least. It makes me sick to see cars crushed when there is so much you could get from them parts wise.

Exactly. Hopefully the parts can be used to save another Cobra or at least another four-eye stang.

Frightening. I was reading along thinking this was a new thread. Then I came across my post. I have absolutely no memory of reading this thread before, seeing that car or posting up. Doodoodoodoodoodoodoo(to the tune of Twilight Zone).

I went looking for it about 2 weeks ago and learned that the shop owner pushed it onto the street (no tags/license) and it was towed. It is probably scrap by now. I wanted the dash and door panels, but never got the chance.
