Default Looking to "rice" my mustang a little

This is my daily driver in the warmer months. It is a '79, with '87-'93 quarter windows, '79 pace car cowl hood, the pace car nose and front spoiler will go on this winter. '94-04 Cobra brakes, 17" cobra rims.

I want to add some side skirts, possibly Saleen style. My rear bumper cover has a tear in the bottom, so I thought I would add a lower to it, again probably Saleen, to cover up the damage and make the car look more even.

To me most pace cars look to busy up front without much going on towards the back. The side skirts and rear cover should help this.

    Now to the "ricer" part, I have been really thinking of adding a Cobra R type spoiler to the rear deck lid. Like this one;

    http://www.carid.com/universal-spoil...it-305976.html

I think it would add enough to balance the car out without ruining the look of the car. The wing has straight sharp lines like a fox mustang. It may be a bit much, but the car has an EFI 351w with a turbo, so if I get a little carried away with the body mods the car has the performance to back it up.

I am including a side shot of my car to give you all an idea of what I am dealing with. The car needs to be painted, and will be done in the same blue as is in the picture. Any opinions?

if you put a spoiler on, please get a 80-93 decklid because not only are 4 eye coupes rare, but 79' coupe decklids are one year only design and extremely rare. 80-93 are dime a dozen.

^ not to threadjack, but what's unique about the 79 lid?

The '79 deck lid is flat, there is no lip towards the back. My deck lid is rusted underneath with some pin holes in the area of the key lock. It needs to be replaced anyway. So, if I tried the wing and did not like it would not cost me a good deck lid. I have done several searches online and only found one fox with a Cobra R wing.

It is your car so do what makes you happy but I always felt wings and ground effects look horrible on Coupes.

I agree, they never look right and your car looks great right now. I would put that money into a paint job fund cause that's all your notch is missing. Just my .02

Yep, I agree with TopGear86. Maybe a thought but get the coupe painted and have somebody photoshop the cobra spoiler to see if it is everything you are hoping for.

I have the same basic concept as you, but I went shorter on my rear spoiler. It is the same spoiler that was use on the 92-93 special edition convertibles.

I agree with most of the above. To me that 'rice' spoiler would ruin th look of your car. 92-93 SE spoiler if you must but naked is better.

ABC Exclusive had this wing listed for a fox. I guess I have only seen them have it on a convertible. But here is the link, maybe it will give you a bit of a visual.

I have been thinking for a while about trying to make an 05 and up spoiler that fits smoothly onto the deck lid work on my vert. Don’t know if it is even possible but I think that would look good.

Funny you would link to this one. It is the exact one I was going to get.

I am going to use the dimensions they list, and make a cardboard model for a rough idea of how it may look. I am a little concerned about how much it will/may block my view out the rear window, the model should help.

No doubt it will look different than any coupe out there.

That looks just like the wing I took off of my car a few months ago... It shouldn't block your vision much as it just raises sightline by 4-6 inches at the end of the car.

They also make a 93 cobra spoiler for verts that may look good as well.

I spent five minuets today making a quick "model" of the Cobra R wing using the dimensions given in the link that 69Clark posted. A piece of drywall and two pieces of 1 x 4" board I had laying around. I think I will order one tomorrow. Here is a couple pics. One thing to keep in mind is that the car does not have the pace car nose on yet, or any ground effects.

ISS SVO, the Cobra wing/spoiler in your picture is nice, but the corners are too rounded for my taste on a non areo fox. Thanks for the suggestion.

It will be interesting to see if the Cobra R wing gets me more police attention. I don't plan to drive the car any differently that I do now. I have not been pulled over in years.

I was going to suggest the same 92-93 special edition spoiler that Marty has. Or maybe even the low profile ASC McLaren lip. Personally, I'd like to see something similar to the 3-piece spoiler that came on the hatchbacks. I think that would look slick on a notch/vert.

The special edition spoiler is nice. If I were doing no other body mods I would strongly consider it. I have one of the three piece spoilers you mentioned on my '90 hatchback. I really like it and have spent some time starring at it, trying to think of a way to use it.
