My 79 Cobra has a set of aluminum keys also! Were they worried about weight back then!

Spent the afternoon on vacuum ... as the calibration is unreadable on the engine's sticker and vacuum lines seemed connected a bit at random, took some time to identify what's left and how ... so here's what we have :

There are 4 vacuum hoses/ports going to nowhere (now plugged), 3 vacuum parts unidentified and for me no match to any vacuum diagram available ... big headache on sight :P

Well, after a few headaches, I managed to get vacuum hoses connected "as they should". Say "as they should" because lacking of calibration information and missing a few vacuum components that were supposed to be according to the various diagrams I've found for 1980, I routed the vacuum according to 9-2E-R93, a '79 49-state routing (without A/C and vapors now, will add A/C later).

Of course, there are still some problems to solve, especially an exhaust leak before the Turbo and I guess a clogged cat, but the engine runs way better now.

nothing more fun than figuring out vacuum on a Ford with no guidelines! Once you document this it will a lot easier for the next guy!

It's been a while so a little update on the Cobra.

As we were unable to solve the various vacuum problems, the owner sent the car to another friend who recently installed as a Mustang specialised mechanic a hundred miles away. That friend spent a few months trying to set the car back to life, rebuilding the Turbo, loosing his hairs trying to figure out what all those vacuum modules were for and if they were even working, flushing the transmission a few times, but finally, he has been able to make it ride again correctly.

Of course, all is not perfect ... there's an exhaust leak at the manifold but trying to repair it is too hazardous, C3 transmission shifts but manual use is mandatory to get the engine rev enough so the Turbo sets (shifts really too early), struts are dead (we'll change them ourselves) but it's drivable at legal speed (put the speedo over 85mph on highway, but was tricky with the struts), that's all we need for now. Plan is, when the engine fail in the future, to swap it for a Turbo EFI 4cyl ... even if it's not factory correct, that'll make repairs easier when needed.

So the car is back in its stable and will be driven as much as possible ... repairing what needs to be (various dashboard issues, struts, seals, etc ...) from day to day then, but not this year nor maybe next one, it'll have some bodywork and a paint job.

Will need help from friends to do the front and rear struts (plus don't know where the owner stored them) so in the meantime, worked on the wheels and wipers :

T-bird polycast don't look bad. Sure they are not top of the line wheels but it's still better than TRX. We'll give the wheels a coat of paint once I've found suitable center caps.

Found those wipers at a nearby part store. They are the only available in the country, as far as I know, that fit the Fox wiper arms.
