    Default 1982 GLX Repaint project

Hi guys after reading the rebuild post by wraithracing I decided to share our journey bringing our 82 GLX back to life
We bought it from the original owner in September 1991 for $1900, he told us that he ordered it with all the options
I only have a couple pictures before I started the restoration. The main reason was the paint was faded beyond repair
Here is what it looked like 20 years ago
Up to this point the only upgrade was an off-road H pipe with 86 duels

Here is where it sat for 15 years after I took it apart and primed it

Now I took baby out of the corner and am getting it ready for paint
I found a local body shop that appreciates older cars to finish the prep work and paint it fo $2500
Unlike when I started the restoration I am taking lots of pics
Here is where I am so far

There is no rust to deal with BUT it did have the typical hole in the floor just behind the drivers side seat so the floor pan was replaced
The installer said it was a perfect fit
I just need to figure out how to finish the underside

Thanks guys, looking forward to seeing the finished product my self

When we bought it the owner gave me a packet and in it was the door stickers, warranty info and both sun visor sleeves.
1 for starting and buckling up and the other for T-top usage

Who wound have of thought that the rear lock would be the hardest part of this rebuild?
Drilled out the rivet, removed the clip and the lock didn't want to come out.
Found another clip inside that not only retained it but that same clip had it's own locks that took a contortionist to remove

I now have the front cover ready for paint.
The painter told me that the front and rear covers along with the hood scoop would be done first and that he would like me to pick them up when they are finished so that nothing happens to them.
I made some feet to transport them home and a rack to store the front cover

    T-top coupe

I thoroughly understand the floorpan issue, lol. I'm getting ready to tackle mine within the next month or two.

The documentation that you got with the car is really neat, the best I got was an 1983 quarter from underneath my carpet.

I look forward to seeing your progress.

Good work so far and nice stands for the parts. Hopefully they do not have to sit on them too long.

I can't wait to see more. This is going to be great. What a great car to have and to work on!

Thanks, this project is out of my comfort zone

    ANY advice?

Removed the gas tank today to empty the 15 year old fuel and clean it up.
I guess I like the galvanized new tank look, I think that it sets off a black car when viewed from the rear where most cars will be when the engine is done
Maybe I'll POR15 the straps, right now they still have rust proofing on them

Thanks, I cleaned both quarter windows and T-Tops today and started to attempt to clean the rust proofing from the inner fender splash panels. Holy cow, I could be there for a week. Maybe I'll buy new ones, who knows.

Right now I'm weighting my options for trim, keeping her chrome around the front and rear windows and rockers or painting them flat black

    Any thoughts?

Keep the stainless trim! That car is so nice and original.

That is what my wife said also, so that I will do
I am putting black door handles and locks on though
If we don't like the look its cheap enough to go back to chrome

Those are the standard size repop wheels they offer now? That's going to look good!

Excellent! Those are my favorite factory wheels by a margin. Nice that you can get them in a standard size now.
