    Default Turning JPN ese

Is there, or was there, an option code for the JPN Mustangs? (See below for the extra pictures)

I've seen three items of equipement non standard on my 81 Mustang 3.3 Hatch.

    1. Front quarter repeaters (unique, but pretty simple, common Japanese items)
    2. Thunderbird/Cougar Two Door XR7 80-82 rear vision mirror window mounts, with Fold back, upper using (get this) Long wheel base Fox 84-87 Lincoln Continental uppers.

    3. The rear tail lights have 1979-982 ZJ Fairlane ( see http://<a href="https://www.youtube....CB03CRQCjg</a> ) inserts for its amber lights which are 'cut and shut" into the tail light housings, similiar to the clear back up lights. They are certainly cut up with the inner 5-5/16 by 6 -7/16 section soround having a construction joint.

When I checked with the common Aussie Fairlane set up, it was the same size. I did notice that the US tail lights only have an SAE stamp on the back up light inserts, not anywhere else, no left or right descriminator.

Regards item 1. I've seen the mirrors in some US export Ford Mustangs done by Special Vehicle Engineering in the United Kingdom, they sometimes got mirrors similar.

Regards item 2. Ford used AVO (Advanced Vehicle Operations) to do the first RHD Mustang conversions to meet the British Type Approval. It was mandatory for door mirrors to be frangable, and fold back.

Early ones were Torino brand, as used in Maseratis, Fiats and Lancias.

When the 80 TF Taunus/Cortina MK IV came out, the fold back Cortina mirrors were used, as per the Aussie Ford FC LTD 5.8. It used the Capri III European EU approved tail light inserts, just like the Mustang did. Some other Mustangs have European Escort Mk III tail lights, which may have come later, or been a personal import.

The wing mirrors then progressed to another type using the 80-82 T bird/Cougar XR7 swing fulcrum, which mounts up to a Fox door shape which is the almost same with Jack Telanacks famous low belt line to windscreen kickup. All early Foxes before the S shell came out used the same profiles.
(83 Brave New 83 t-Bird, LSC, and Conti Fox were these S-shell types in Ford Speak)

In Japan, fold back mirrors were required, because normal practice to 1985 was to have the famous inverted hockey stick wing mirrors mounted on front gards generally. The fold back mirrors used the common 80-82 Fox XR7/Tbird base, but an 84 Lincoln Continentatal (Fox Compact/Intermediate) which didn't get minted till mid 1983. I suspect the door mirrors I have predated the 84 model year items.

Regards item 3. The tailights I've seen on just one Spanish Notch in Europe. , so that's why the Europena and UK market itesm wouldn't pass for a new car sale...the EU requires E codes or UK Type approval, so the UK market ones sold new had to get either Ford Escort or Ford Capri tail light inserts, as weel as combination front bumber indicators and fog lamps.

But it didn't have the folding back mirrors, and was 1980.

dburdyshaw posted the diifferent hues of tail light around. Its been suggested that mine are a cut and shut of the two exitsting types

But mine have a amber inner set between the brake and backup lights, which have to be amber to meet an international JIS, E-dot standard. DOT isn't good enough, and stock ones aren't even DOT approved.
