Default Capri gets a little attention

Went to the NMRA finals in Bowling green and won the Tremec stick shootout.

Here’s a headline not often seen, 4 cylinder Mercury Capri wins, lol

And a bit more on my car

I’ve chased after this race a while, can get qualified, have runnered up, but finally won one. Name: 61B2F82F-E1AE-4952-B43C-52C41EA3E6DE.jpeg

Great news Bob, and really nice write-ups on your exploits. I find it amazing that you can run 40 psi on a stock block and crank. The Ford engineers did something right when they designed that engine. Talk about bullet proof.

I'd never heard of that heads up/bracket hybrid type of racing. It sounds like it would be a lot of fun being able to stay pedal to the metal through the lights without fear of breakouts. This coming from a guy who gave away far too many races via breakout.

Good to hear you are still at it, enjoying it and having success at it!

Cranks have not been an issuer, and the bottom end of the block has also been fine. On teardown of my short licks, clank, bearings, all good, no cap walk, etc.

The top part of the block is a different issue for sure. Thin cylinders and deck, and only 10 head bolts have been ongoing challenges. Basically at high boost it’s trying to lift the head and I get cylinder pressure pushing a bit of water. I can manage it, but it’s an ongoing challenge.

As a solution, I finally managed to score one of the original Ford aftermarket blocks that was in the SVO Catalog (became Ford motorsports). This block is taller, has a much thicker deck, and the cylinders are Siamese. Much better foundation I’ve started to build. Issue now is parts, doesn’t look like I can get rods or pistons to start next season, but when I get it together it should be better (but still stuck with 10 head bolts)

Unfortunately, not from the stick shootout. It was late and dark, and my wife went from videographer mode to fan mode and nothing she got was very viewable, lol.

This is a test pass from Friday … https://youtu.be/23HluO4QUck
