Thread: SVO Fenders

    Default SVO Fenders

Looking at possibly buy a SVO. It will need new front fenders. Are the front fenders specific to the SVO or will regular mustangs fenders fit? Thanks.

They are specific to the SVO as there is a notch in each fender for the wrap around bumper cover. You can use FOX body fenders, but the bumper cover won't fit like it was meant to fit.

Nobody seems to have any SVO specific new fenders.

On 86GT I've had good luck with CAPA certified replacements from Rockauto.com but the do not have any links or numbers which suggest that possibly nobody is making them right now. Freight was way more than the fenders, you can get up to 4 at a time for the same shipping fee.

Kill one rare SVO to save another seems like a losing proposition.

The parts for the nonSVO cars that are orderable currently on RockAuto that I know are nice:
    FO1240108
    #E1ZZ16006A LF 79-90 except SVO
    FO1240109 #E1ZZ16005A RF 79-90 except SVO

you may want to hit SVO specific URLs and see what others are doing. Perhaps there are mods suggested to work past this problem??

I m pretty sure it will be easier to make the needed simple mods to regular fox fenders than it will be to find svo specific fenders. Other than the notch Mike talked about I think there are a few extra holes that need drilled.
I would look for a while first though before going that route.

I am not sure what notch you are referring to. Or at least I don't see what you mean in that regards. The SVO fenders are definitely unique due to the different holes punched in them, but I don't see how you couldn't do the same to a standard Fox Mustang fender.

Other than the slots above the molding line for the SVO bumper cover and the holes at the bottom of the fender for the bracket that attach to the SVO cover, I don't see any difference in the shape of the fenders myself. It's possible the 5 degree temperature today was freezing my brain, but I don't see it.

Trey - Here too, as I totally forgot about the holes for the lower bumper cover bracket the and 3 holes for the bumper cover. 9 degrees for the high today. Woo Hoo!

Look where the cover wraps around the fender and where the philips head screws attach the cover to the fender. There fender actually has a notch out of it so the cover fits flush with the fender.

9 here too, about the warmest it's been for a while. Brrr

Looks like you could use non-SVO fenders with only slight modifications. No complaints about the rock auto fenders.

I didn't think about the inside lip of the wheel arch. I will try and take some pictures today, although it's snowing here again! D#mn global warming!

The regular non-SVO fenders can be made to work if you are not concerned with originality. The "notch" on the inside wheel arch isn't all that much and the bumper cover can either be trimmed a smidge or just stretch the cover a bit and secure with a screw.

Thanks for all the input and info but the deal fell through. After agreeing on a price the seller was dragging his feet on completing the deal. Had a feeling he was stringing me along. Turns out he sold it to someone else. Thanks again.

I think I do actually remember the slight notch in the fender lip. Hadn't really thought about it much, but then again, I haven't been working on SVO's much lately like I was back in the early 2000's.

Once this crazy weather (25 degrees and Raining! WTH!!! ) stops, I will take a closer look at my SVO fenders and post a picture. Thanks!

Sorry to hear about that. I have had similar situations a lot lately. Not sure what it is with people these days.

I have had a few guys sell items on me in the last year. Plus I have had just as many guys try and buy stuff that I said was already sold by offering me more money.

Seems to be trend. The guy we bought the Saleen from was dragging his feet and then wasn't sure he wanted to sell it. I think his wife finally talked him into selling it.

Unless you've had the front bumper cover off, you'd prob never notice.

Nice comparison pics Kendal. Perfect example of the notched SVO fender and the fit with the wrap around bumper cover.

Race car has wrong fenders, when it was wrecked they didn't have time to get the correct ones.

I kinda figured that was it, surely Mark would have used the correct ones on the giveaway car. So, based on that, you will have to leave as is since it is part of the history of the car.
