    Default 83/84 GT Turbo

My cage/exhaust guy just got a Fox Stang in trade for some exhaust work he did. He said it's rough but intact. He stated it was a turbo 4 cylinder and has rear facing hoodscoop. Probably a Turbo GT, has a sunroof, hatch, and it is red. I don't know any other details or year. He was gonna check into it. His plan was to use the tub as a cage mock for Fox mail order cages.

But if it's somewhat rare he'll reconsider. Anyone have any details on these? I know they are rarer than SVOs and can be made just as fast and fun. These were just 83/84 models right?

They are 83/84 models....but with less than 4500 total built between the two years, you could say they are rare (ESPECIALLY the 83s).

I will be looking at the car on sunday or monday. Hoping to trade a aero notch shell for it so he can cut up the notch and not the turbo gt.

    Keep the fingers crossed.

If I get it it will be my seconds turbo gt.

The plan is to take the 2.3t drivetrain/front mount intercooler/3inch exhaust/svo/saleen 5 lug brakes/Saleen wheels and svo seats out of the notch and drop it into the turbo gt.

    Should be fun.

Yup, quite a bet less produced than the SVO. Just a little over 600 produced in '83, as it was a late model year production run. Quite a bit more in '84 as it was a full model year production run, but the total for both model years was well under less than 50% of the SVO.

I'd like to have one some day, either an '83 or an '84 convertible.

I just got back from the shop. It is a 84 GT turbo with slapper bars and the 3 piece rear spoiler. Its rough because its been sitting for 10+ years.

Sounds like the dude is going to keep it and fix it up and not cut it up. I made my offer so lets see what happens.

I saw that guys post on coloradostangs.com that he had a foureye... Thought to myself I wonder if that's a GT Turbo from his description. Now to see it talked about here.. LOL Glad your saving it from his chopping block.

Good news! Hank has decided to keep the car and post progress on the resurection/build. There is some contradicting info whether it is a 83 or 84 but it will be put back together as a shop project. For now, Hank will be doing the basics to get it on the road and possibly a HPDE car in the future.

I think the VIN states an 84 and the title states an 83. Something like that anyway. I have not seen the documents personaly.

If that's true then it's a mistake with the title. The model year is dictated by the VIN, and the VIN alone. Anything to the contrary, even an 'official' document from the state, is an error.

Good save and good on him for NOT cutting it up. Never said anything was wrong with wanting.......heck, that's all I can afford to do at this point of the game/economy!
