Default Under dash/foot well courtesy lights question!

Hey everyone! Wondering who can chime in here and shed some light...

I’ve done some reading and I understand that pre 89 Foxes have an empty bulb socket to accommodate a 168 bulb in the footwell of driver and passenger sides. I took a look under the dash of my 86 today and for the life of me I can’t find these sockets. Can anyone snap a picture for me of where they are? I’m wondering if previous owner tucked them away somewhere so I would really appreciate if someone can snap a picture of the location on driver and passenger sides. Thanks!

The light sockets are generally mounted to the metal frame of the dash. The mounting tab is the ground and there is a single power wire running to the socket that is hot when the door is open or the headlight knob is rotated to the interior light position. I just got both sides working in my 1986 Bronco and used 1156 LED single element bulbs for better lighting and less heat. Good Luck!

I’m not sure they were present on all models. I know my 84 vert has them but verts have no dome light, just a mirror light.

Agreed! I haven't seen them on every model either. I am sure they were part of a light/convenience package or were part of standard equipment on the upper end models. Foxchassis I am sure knows, but he's keeping us in the dark! See what I did there!

Thanks for the reply. I know that the convenience/light group includes the ash tray light, the glovebox light and the foot well lights. I have the tray light and the glovebox light but I can’t see the foot well lights. I am going to do some more checking Friday afternoon! Will post back

Thanks for the reply. I will take a look at the metal
Frame area. Didn’t look at that but rather the spaghetti of wire looms! Will report back on Friday!

    ^^^ this.
My 79 Zephyr had power steering and power brakes, but no other options.
No tilt wheel, no ammeter, no AC, no trunk light, no glove box light, no ashtray light. The dome light only works with the drivers door, not pass side.
There is a mounting hole for a switch on the passenger side door jamb, but no wiring present.
I bought a switch for it. I suppose I could also mount some courtesy lights as well.
I would think I would need to up the fuse for that circuit, but your suggestion of using LEDs is a good one as it most likely would not need to re-fuse
    Thanks!
79 Zephyr, 4.6L 4v/4r70w swap, with team z front and rear suspension, 8.8 and upgraded brakes and coil overs. Running Holley Terminator X Max.

Apparently you had to have the 'Light Group' specifically ordered as an option. This netted the buyer; Glove Box Light, Underhood Light, Ashtray Light, Well Light, and lastly (front) Dome Light.
