I bought this 83 GT back in April of 17 from Skip out in Colorado. It's a rust free car, actually it's dryer than a popcorn fart, but the paint is baked.
It was an $800 car so I figured it would be deserving of a $50 paint job. (Actually it comes out much more than that buying sandpaper, DA polisher, etc.)
The hood was smoked so I found one off an 85-86 along with front/rear bumper cover, and fenders. The originals were all pretty much beat to death and any plastic part has been killed by the Colorado sun.
I sanded everything down than began to apply the Rustoleum Topside gloss black paint. I thinned it with Penetrol and added enamel hardener then used a 4" foam roller. I let it dry a couple days after the first coat then wet sanded with 600. Applied another coat, wet sanded with 1k, third coat, wet sanded with 2k, then machine cut it with Meguiars 105 compound. Next step will be to machine polish with Meguiars 205 polish. The fenders still need wet sanded and another coat. The hood has been machine cut and us waiting for polish.
Besides my subpar prep work, it's turned out decent so far.
