My '78 Fairmont build - http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthre...539-78-Big-Red
Parts collected the other night. Although I'm won't be using some of these parts, they are NOT for sale (in this section ) because that would get me frowned at, probably spoken to , or even reprimanded
ES headlights, grille & side mirrors:
ES blacked-out tail lights:
Looks like all of the "Exterior Accent Group Trim," don't know if any of it is useable:
Rear side vent pieces, interior & exterior. Standard on ES's, optional on all boxtops, I believe. RnD (RacinNdrummin) from whom the parts came from originally complained that they really leaked badly:
Lots of "stainless" (aluminum of course) upper trim:
More to come.

Nice driver's side panel, with slight curling, MUCH better than the black one I picked up a while back:
With the unique (?) ES panel insert, matching, I think, the passenger side dash bezel:
Red parts:
The surprise that might be worth the price of admission: E3DF/E4DF (depends on which part you look at) instrument cluster with a 140mph "Certified Calibration" speedometer:
Also included was the red carpet, sagging headliner, the dash hull that RnD painted black, sun visors, heater, a box of miscellaneous small part, etc.
All in all, a good haul.

I love that "engine turned" ES trim. Mine had the woodgrain that came with the 6-gauge dash though
Soooo, are you going to tell me how you did the taillight box or not?

Wow! I'm restoring mine, again (did it 2007, but had a fender bender in 2010) and couldn't find any great pics of the front brake line locations (have to make new lines), after doing all my rear lines. Your project pics are outstanding. Thanks. Mine weren't all that well taken.
Nice work.

I remember doing some research about the ES fairmont stuff years ago, but never really noticed they had blackout trim on the taillights.
Ah, good. I was hoping you'd see this, Brad.

eager to see more...nice work
Mike,
What year speedo and tach are you using? I want to convert my 80 Fairmont to a tach and 140 speedo.
Thanks,
Tom
The cluster is out of an '86 SVO (note the turbo gauge in the upper left) with aftermarket overlays. You could/should substitute a V8 tach and amp gauge or put an 85/86 SVO speedo into a standard Mustang cluster. Check out:

Thanks Mike, I'll read up on this.

Wow!! This project is truly inspirational. Great work!
What's the word on this Mike? Making smoke yet?
Progress is being made in fits and starts, much of it correcting things done early that I was unhappy with.
A report with pics coming soon.

Wow! I've been working (occasionally) on Big Red for two years now. And no updates for a long time.
She's been running for more than a year, but life gets in the way.
Time to move her out of the shop, check the cooling system for leaks, then fill with 50/50 antifreeze, set the timing at running temp, etc.
First time moving under her own power since I sold her in 2011.
Quick video (I hope): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dq7LXSFT6tg
Running a little rich, one lifter is ticking. Small stuff. On the road soon.

Adding some missing stuff. Console details:
Bare smooth metal.
Studs welded to the back.
Gauges mounted before painting. Eventually, I'll add a switch on the left for the 2-speed rear defogger.

After many, many long, arduous hours spent in fervent prayer to the great goddess Serendipity, she has answered my prayers.
After a good shot of electronic contact cleaner, it reads 77ohms at bottom, 3ohms at highest and sweeps smoothly up and down.
