thanks guys if anyone happens to have that piece of moulding that is missing on the front fender between bumper and wheel opening let me know thanks, chris
Are you trying to get the short optional pieces? Meaning..the short ones that don't extend all the way to the wheel lip, or the standard long ones? Some long ones were made of aluminum and some of a plastic/rubber like material. Which pieces are you trying to track down?
Here's an old picture of my car..maybe 10 years ago before I added a different cowl hood, stripped off the vinyl top and a few other things. You can see how I added XR7 side window louvers and 5 lug axles. The Firehawk tires have long since dry rotted...I still miss them. I wish Firestone would bring them back.

this is the piece on the pass side, im looking for the one for driver side, was missing when I got the car ,nice looking tbird looks like my cougars cuz thanks chris
I think I have one out in the garage. Is your passenger side one made of rubber or aluminum?
its aluminum
Tbird a are the same. Had to purchase one for my 81 cougar as well.

I'm pretty sure I have a drivers side aluminum piece. My T-bird used the rubber plastic type but I took them off and was going to replace them with aluminum ones that I took off a white car a few years back. I think it was a Cougar.
I also took the metal retaining brackets off the donor car...I'll try go out to the garage and take a look before it gets dark tonight (no electric out there).
It took till today to go out there....way too much snow out there. This is a drivers side trim with the mountain brackets. I think after a nice sanding a matching paint it would look pretty good. It must originally have been on a bronze color car, you can see someone did a quick white spray paint over the original color. Its in about 95% good shape I'd say. If you want shoot me a PM.

yea bud that looks right
Wheels are a cheep Jegs knock offs...tires are Hankooks. Fronts have 5 1/2 back spacing, rears are 6 1/2 back spacing. Stock 86 GT springs cut one coil, full Sn95 swap from 98 V6 stang....7.5 with 2:70's but will be going 4:10's. Front swap using Sn95 struts, complete knuckles/brakes, lower control arms and steering rack. Only have slight interference on front lips when turning and hitting a bump. Rolled the lips and trimmed the liners. With 2 degrees of negative camber...This car is a true daily driver with a 100+ miles a day...rain,snow or shine.Attachment 80699

I forgot all about the Cougar wagon. Took it for granted when I was younger, very cool.
The Cougar XR7's and the Thunderbirds look great to me. I still wish Ford had used the same front end treatment on the sedan and wagon version!

They really do grow on you. But I have to say I still prefer what Mercury did with their front marker lamps. Ive never been big on the long rectangle side markers on the bird. I might have to figure out a way to make them look like the stock car (...of course that's just a set of decals)
E2ZZGLX... are you really going with 4.10 gears?
I ended up swapping my 7.5 rear out with an 8.8. My original gears were something like 2.24s if I recall correctly. The 8.8 rear came out of an 89 Mustang with 3.27 gears and posi-trac. From there, I swapped in 3.73 gears and was pretty happy with that rear for a daily driver with a C4 transmission and rear tires 28" across.
The 28" tall tires lose some of your gearing. 4.10's with an aod is almost perfect. On a side note 4.10's in a nitrous small block 5 speed drag car make for 7200+ rpms going thru the traps
That's a good point about loosing gearing with taller rear tires. Initially, I was going to go with 3.55 gears till I got thinking about that exact relationship between 3.73 gears and 28" tires. My final ratio probably ended up closer to 3.55 with my combo. I had a calculator saved somewhere.
Your right about 4.10 gears in the back would be ideal for power.
Yes, 4:10 are the plan for now, when this swap happens car will become weekend driver/fun toy. Most lilky stick with the 7.5 and rob the gears and traction lock out of an Aerostar. Not planning on making a lot of HP in this car, Explorer/GT40 long block, B303...just the basics around 300hp maybe. It may see a pass down the strip but other than that fun street driver.
