I can certainly understand that. I used to race just about every week in the late 70's till our local track closed at the end of the '78 season. I took a little 30 year break to do the raising a family thing and started back racing in 2008. Fortunately I don't have the gotta go faster bug as I can't afford that. I concentrate on bracket racing where I don't have to be the fastest to win.
Your car looks great. Looking forward to those under the hood pics.

We're not fast racers, we're more what's known as half fast racers.
I've been bracket racing since 1978 and I never got the "flap" these days over bracket racing. Other than upstart sanctioning bodies have convinced people that racing "heads up" with a tire handicap, a spec motor, or a preset breakout (9.0, 10.0, 11.0, 12.0) is more fun than dialing in your own precise breakout. The fact is bracket racing tests the driver as much as the car and that's exciting no matter how fast you go. If my 12 second car beat your 10 second car, most likely it's because my driving and setup, beat your driving and setup. Instead of your wallet beat my wallet. When someone rips on bracket racing, my feeling is, they just can't handle the challenge of a fair fight.
Exactly how I see it! In heads up racing if one car's significantly slower the best driver in the world still can't win with it. And all it takes to have a fast car is enough money. But in bracket racing a really good driver can beat guys who have much bigger budgets because the driver's skill is much more important than the equipment he has.

What is your distributor / advance setup? Not that you really need it with 460 cubes but Normally you can get a lot better throttle response and mileage with the vacuum advance connected.

Made it to the last test and tune session for the season...
Got it dialed in a little better...12.02@110 was the best...with a 1.67 60'

Nice improvement!
And 11s to look forward to all winter!
Sounds like a good 2014.
I bracket race against some of the best, at least in the Northeast, if not everywhere .... I do it for a venue to race, because frankly that is what there is here .... That said, it simply has become less and less about car performance and repeatability, and more about the games you can play. It used to be if you cut a light and ran your number you was going rounds ... today, I don't feel that is the case much any more with hardcore bracket guys. Just too many shenanigans go on for it to be fun.
In a series like you run Mike I do think there is less of it, you guys are still sportsmen and racing for the love of it ... go on a regular points bracket day with more money on the line and see if your opinion changes. Even further, throw what you love with a stick shift into a normal class where you are giving up that consistency, and it will get frustrating.
For sure the same crap can go on in index stuff, but it's much less because the cars leave together and should hit the stripe together.
Bracket racing is a great participants sport, but like watching paint dry for most as far as spectators. I love to watch it, but also understand all the games going on within a pass and love the numbers aspect of it. Any kind of heads up action will still pull spectators and people go to watch.
I've converted, I will give up multiple local race weekend to afford to go the NMRA / NMCA type events. The racing is better, it's more exciting, and it's mostly heads up (for sure they still run bracket classes too). With a crazy work schedule and life in the way, week in, week out bracket racing doesn't appeal to me much any more.
All of this is moot anyway, I gave up my 2014 season for work in China and would love to race anything at this point ... I will get home in time for snow

The engine is maxed out in it current form without making a cam change or any kind of head work. With more suspension tuning, it will probably go 11.80's with this current combination...I'm going to start collecting parts for the new combo...but it will take some time...so I'll have fun with this for now.

It's been a while since I've posted. My car was down most of 2015 due to the trans taking a dump in early May. I did a lot of research and decided to stick with the C4. I chose Broader Performance in Texas for parts. Jay is a really good guy to deal with and gave me a few suggestions on my build which actually cost me less money in parts. I got everything back together towards the end of August and never made it back to the track. I could definitely tell the car was pulling a lot harder in third gear than it did before. Due to my schedule, I never made it back to the track to see if there was a notable difference.
As the car sits now, it's getting a heads/cam/intake/carb swap. I've chosen Ford Motorsports SCJ heads and having a custom cam ground by RM Competition from Roseville, Michigan. Intake will be a victor 460. I've also decided to switch to E85 fuel, so I'm also going to have a custom 1050 carb built...I'm considering having Mark Sullens build the carb. He has a reputation of being one of the best E85 carb builders in the country.

That looks sweet! Do you ever go to Norwalk? I always tried to make it up there 2 or 3 times a year when my car was on the road but unfortunately that hasn't been since '08, hopefully this year. Nice job!

Got it together in time to make my son's senior prom May 13th!
Next goal is to be sitting at National Trail Raceway on Sept 11th for Drag Week '16

I used to frequent Norwalk quite a bit, but never with this car. I've had this car together for 3 years enjoying it and slowly finding the weak links and working out it's bugs...It's a total blast to drive on the street. Although the old combo was fairly mild, I would get "that doesn't sound like a 5.0" look every time I pulled into a csr show or local hangout!
Good luck with your build, and I hope to see another fellow big block car out there!
