Weren't all radios optional in 79, not standard equipment?

Love this interior! What a time machine. Is that an 8 track?

Are you speaking about the add on under the glove box? Could be I suppose. Maybe that is the CB radio? Also the analog clock added!

That carpet looks great. I like the Ghia interior!

All radios were optional in 1979 and 1980 in the Capri and Mustang. (There was no radio credit aka "delete" option those two years.) Starting in 1981 all came standard with a radio and the radio credit option was also available for the first time.

Dual rear speakers were optional in 1979 through 1981 with AM radio, AM radio w/ digital clock (1979 only), and AM/FM mono radio. Otherwise those three years/radios had either a single speaker (standard 1979-80) or dual front speakers (optional 1979-80, standard 1981). Dual front and rear speakers were standard with all stereo radios.

Ah correct terminology. So this may have been a factory no-radio optioned car. Just like our coupe. Not a "delete" as previously stated.

Thanks for the clarification. The interior is still awesome!

I think the 79 base models could also be had with a radio that only had dash speakers?

That might be another way it ended up with no rear speaker holes.

Could have been a no-radio car, but no radio was not an "option". If you wanted no radio you did nothing - it didn't come with one anyway so there was not an option to choose to not have one.

I agree that this is a nicely preserved 79.

Update - 2023 - Looking to buy 81 Mustang, 82/85/86 Mustang GT, and 79 - 86 Capri (No Sunroof). Not looking for all original/show cars or convertibles - I will be modifying. Would be nice if both were - Black Interior, PW, PL, AC, No - or very little rust. Motor/Trans/Axle not important. Options negotiable with price.

The 1979-81 AM, AM w/ digital clock (1979 only), and AM/FM mono radios came standard with a single speaker (dash center-mount). If you ordered the optional dual rear speakers with any of those three radios you also got dual front speakers. Dual front and dual rear speakers were standard with any stereo radio in any year.

The only way to get dual front speakers and no rear speakers from the factory was with the radio flexibility option (dealer stock orders only), which included noise suppression equipment, antenna and cable, radio installation kit, dealer-installed AM radio (or credit for more expensive radio), and cut-outs/grills/wiring for dual rear speakers.

Oh ... you funny funny man ... but now wait a sec, is it TAN or is it LIGHT CHAMOIS? I'm thinking that it's LIGHT CHAMOIS (which rocks almost as much as the CHAMOIS Medium Glow).
