The weather is getting colder, wetter, and windier (is that a real word?) so I thought I'd at least start working on a project thread. If I start the thread, it might help me get started working on my car. Here are a few of my "Before" photos.

Thanks for the comments, and yes, she does need some loving. I've been doing little things here and there. You can see from the date stamp (one day after my 51st birthday), these photos are nearly a year old.
She's already received some much needed maintenance:
TIRES!
Spark plugs, cap, rotor, timing adjustments, carb adjustments, interior cleaning, radiator flush, new coolant, front brakes, rear brakes still had over 60% on the pads because they were improperly adjusted - I adjusted them so they actually help stop the vehicle now , flushed the braking system, valve cover gasket, fixed a few oil leaks - still has at least one more to find, rear shocks - front struts are needed, Sea Foamed the gas tank and crankcase (talk about mosquito abatement).
More to come, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Whats your plan for the car? Will you be keeping it 100% stock, or are some modifications in the works? Very nice car btw, you dont see Ghia's like that anymore. I love it!
Cheers!

Thanks. I'm planning on a T-5 swap, rebuilding the engine. Another member has an Offenhauser Dual-Port 360 4-bbl intake I'm considering. Possibly a Crane Cams 268H with matching lifters and rocker arms. Ranger or 83+ exhaust manifold. Another member has a 3.73:1 (he thinks) trac-lok for the 7.5" rear end.
Would love to stroke this engine to 2.5L with the above mods. Possibly shave the head to increase the compression ratio slightly.
Still in the "What to do with her?" phase.

That's gotta be an unusual combo of Ghia and manual trans with no console. A lot of potential. Since you're trying to decide what to do with it still, I say mod the piss out of it and leave the exterior as stock as possible. That aught to get the attention of some unsuspecting victims.

Wow, looks like something from L.A. I think the only thing I'd add would be limo tint all around--it looks so good when its done right.
Limo tint is a great idea, Bryan. I'll add it to the list.

I know that this is one car that I would like to see more of...especially after a good cleaning inside and out. It costs nothing more that soap and water with a bit of elbow grease. Its a good bonding experience and a good place to start. I know there's a gem of a Ghia in the works!

I did the vacuuming several times since I brought her home. Cleaned out the interior, the trunk (that's where I found the Pace Car build sheet - don't worry, Mick has it in his database now), and the engine bay has had several degreasings and pressure washes since that day. I now seem to have a permanent grease / oil stain on the side of the driveway. Wifey not happy about that. I just tell her it's another project for another day.
I need to get some wax on her, but she's been washed a few times this year already.
Forgot to mention here, the headliner came down (from the back window to the sunroof) several months ago. I need to get some spray adhesive to put it back up properly, but the many, many, many, many T-pins holding it up are working fine for now.
If you look closely in the pictures (from the driver-side door), you can see the ashtray is mounted in the wrong location. I think the PO was using a CB and used the pop-up lighter power connection to power the CB. I moved the ashtray back to its proper location under the 8-Track.

FYI the 3M 90 spray adhesive works great and you can get it at Lowes / Walmart / etc. Just be sure to wash off any you get on your skin fairly quickly, or you can get a rash.
Thanks, Mazlem. I'll look for that next time I'm at Lowe's. They give a Veteran's Discount, too. Reps sent.

That's awesome. I had a '79 Ghia once too. My first car! Same cloth seats, but mine was white with tan interior with console. It had the I-6/auto, and a CB! Oh, and mine was rusty...

Thanks. One of the POs had a CB installed. The antenna is in the trunk and the cable is already run from the trunk, under the carpet, to under the dash. I hope it's still good. A CB is on my list.
Haven't received a response from the member with the Offenhauser intake, yet. Working on getting some other parts, too. I've located a guy on the eastern side of ID who does some magic with the 2.3L engines. Not sure what his involvement is, exactly. I need to call and ask him some questions.

Gathering parts. Bought an Offenhauser Dual Port 360 4-bbl intake and an 8K tach from members. Another member has a 2.3L engine I'm interested in, too. Depending on shipping costs, that might be the cheaper way to go, for now.
The underhood insulation was sagging so much, it was making contact with the engine. I removed it.

The 8K tach arrived today and the Offenhauser intake arrived awhile back. The shipping cost on the other member's engine puts it out of my reach. I'll look for another engine locally or probably rebuild the one I have. No room to do that at the house and the colder (rain/snow) weather is on the way, so I'm running out of time to rebuild the engine myself. May have to take it to a shop.
