nice build, this will be a monster
I've been wanting a BBF lincoln Mark VII for a while, this is making that itch turn into a rash!
Do you feel that by having the tri-y header on the DS side that you should do the same on the otherside?

I would have if I had started the drivers side first, but I can't see where it would really hurt the performance. The engine set back should really help with the handling, but it really made it cramped for the back two primary tubes on each side.
A MarkVII would be killer with a 460!
I finally made it back out to the garage...been real busy with family things and fighting a stupid sinus infection on and off for the past few weeks...started test fitting the drivers side header....I must have moved the steering while I was fabbing #5-6 merge...because it hits the rag joint...time to modify the steering shaft...now a flaming river or maximum motorsports shaft would be ideal, but as life goes, I don't have that kind of money to drop, since most go for around $200. My solution is to make my own. I do have an accumulated pile of steering shafts lying around....so, a quick trip to the local roundy round chassis shop... and $15 bought me a straight coupler....so what I did was cut up 2 steering shafts for the u joints and picked up some heavy wall tube to join both halves together. I still have to do my final fitting and welding, but this is what I came up with.

Sweet!! Ground pounder!!

Thanks!
All along, I was going after a sleeper look. The car is mainly a street car, but it will make it to the track occasionally.
My goal doing the swap, I wanted everything to fit under the stock hood..(no scoops), I wanted to run a belt driven water pump, and I wanted ground clearance.
I really like the way it looks...I want to have it sealed, so I can keep the fresh out of the field look.

Here's the finished steering shaft....not the prettiest, because I had to weld it on the car. The coupler got stuck on the rack.I should have cleaned the splines better!

I saved at least $185 over what a new shaft costs. About $45 if I were to just buy the u-joint coupler.

I finally finished the driver side header besides paint....this had to be the most difficult part of the build!

Makes me wish i had more fabrication skills. Good job!
Thanks!
Believe me...I wish I had more tools....all of the tubing was cut with a 4 1/2" grinder with a cut off wheel....swap headers were out of the budget...so this was the solution....Total cost for the headers were $165 + shipping...and a lot of tool throwing and cussing! This totally tried my patients!

Cool, nice work and i am sure there are some (including me) that would give ya hell for BBF'n a turbo mont, but if ya dont have any lemons ya cant make lemonade can ya? so with all the missing turbo parts it would have taken alot of cash and time to acquire those parts im sure, so No grief from me LOL. Keep up the nice fabrication work!!!

It wasn't any more difficult than small block long tubes. With the engine lifted, the passenger side goes in from the top, drivers side up from the bottom....the thing that was the most difficult to install was the freaking dipstick tube.....I almost lost my mind trying to get that stupid thing back in!

I'm not certain of what years they were made, but It's actually a 351-400m bellhousing which share the same pattern as a 429-460....I belive you can find them in some of the light duty trucks and cars...back in the 70's you could have 3 different automatics behind a smallblock....fmx, c4, or a c6.

Thanks!...It took me a long time to make them....and I did mess up quite a few times, which each time was a major setback. I just don't have the time to sit down and spend hours doing this stuff.( 4 kids )... I had the headers in and out of the car about a thousand times each...ok maybe not that much, but it was a lot.
2 thing that were a must with these headers:
ground clearance....and I had to be able to remove the starter without the header interfering.

It's been a while...and not much progress...lots of things to do around the house! I decided to roll it outside and check it's stance with the 460 in it....it hasn't been on the ground in 2yrs. I'm still working on radiator, fan shroud, trans cooler mock up. It appears that my water pump center is actually lower than a 302...I have to build new brackets to move my shroud down around 1 1/2"...I can put an 18" fan on this thing now! Now for a few pictures...
