Looks like one of the early Enduro GT's before they did the fender flares. There were a few like that.

I think the paint may give the illusion of fender flares, but it is not a Capri

From info that I have gathered it was just another concept/special edition mustang built to promote various tuning products available from the Ford Motorcraft catalog in the early 80's.

According to the Revell model box they appeared at the International Auto show series and major new car shows, probably to generate interest in the "then new" 2.3 turbo engine. Wonder if any selected dealers got to show them off too?

Wonder if any of the 7 cars still survive?

I'm confused. This car has TRXs and Michelins, not BBKs and Firestones. Also, what the heck is that thing on the upper half of the door? Sure doesn't look like a GT40 logo to me...

I seen one of these cars about five years ago in Akron, OH. The car was custom painted with lacquer on the Ford GT graphics. He sold it to his brother, who drove it for three years in the winter and last year had a Maaco quick paint job on it. Sad !

Have any of these cars ever surfaced? I've never seen one for sale, or in a private collection or otherwise... you'd think being pretty special cars at the time that someone would have taken care of one and put it away...

Bobby Fehan did all of the custom paint work on these cars back then. His brother Doug and him did some work for Ford Motorsport back then. If some of you remember, Bobby Fehan drove the 1984 Mac Tool Mustang SVO car in the SCCA curcuit.

One of these is in a private collection in Cherry Hill, NJ. Collector is a bit on the eccentric side and was buying up low mileage and one of a kind "tuner mustangs" back in the mid to late 80's. I brokered a bunch of very early Saleens (including a pre production car not serialized but documented by Steve Saleen himself) to him back in the 85-89 range......

Check out the link below. That is the image that was painted on the side of the Mustangs. As stated above it was blurred image of a GT 40. The angled view of the picture distorts the image. If you wanted to replicate the car today, you could probably have a good sign/decal/graphics guy scan the image and make either a full vehicle wrap or a stencil to paint the graphics on. Some may give you a hard time about copyrights etc. so be forewarned. Then all you would need is the rear spoiler. Anyone know where to locate one of those. I would love to know too!

    Michael,

Thanks for the help. I do like the spoiler on the Maier car too, but I don't think its the same as the other spoiler. I think the Maier spoiler is more upright than the one in question. I do have one of Maier's old catalogs, so I will take a closer look.

It's kind of funny that you posted the link to the Maier Mustang, since I currently own the front clip off of this car.

I see this is a fairly old thread now but I just scored one of these model kits today for $20 in a very nice original box unbuilt I'm planning to build it exactly as depicted however I can't seem to find many pictures of the original cars to use as reference material.
I also scored one of the Universial Marketing 1981 Mustang Corba promos with Chrome mirrors for $30 felt like I did pretty good considering how hard it to find either one of these models now.

Tim my name is Bob Fehan, back in the late 70s myself and Ron Fournier were contracted to rebuild Ford Motorsports youth market by creating cool Ford Motosrport show vehicles. I built 7 of the custom Motorcraft Mustangs in this photo, hand painting the Ford GT images on the side of each vehicle along several engine and interior mods. bobfehanmotorsports.com

This is Bob Fehan, bobfehanmotorsports.com Ron Fournier and i build all the Ford Motorsport show cars from the late 70s to 1990, the rear spoilers were all hand fabricated in metal. All 7 vehicles were sold about 8 years ago. hope this helps?
