Smile Mustang wave? Fact or Fiction?

I'm sure you guys have heard of the Jeep wave, if not, it's where you're out in your Jeep and see another Jeep driving by and you wave or give a thumbs up to each other. Kind of like commoradity between fellow Jeepers.

Does this exist between fellow Mustang owners? I sometimes get a return wave from other Stang owners while cruising in my Mustang, usually from the aero guys. (can't remember the last time I saw another four eye on the road here ) I don't even bother with the newer Mustangs. (or newer Jeeps for that matter) They just look at you like you're .

If I see a fellow Jeeper broke down on the side of the road or a Mustang with their hood up I go out of my way to help them. Just seems like the right thing to do, like we're part of a big family.

Any one else feel like this or get a wave from a fellow Stanger or is it just a Jeep thing. What's it like in your state?

Oh yeah, I give the wave or thumbs up to the fellow Mustangs when I see them. Same goes for VW people, they are really into it!! LOL I've even noticed a few fellow Bronco owners waving to me when I'm driving around in my 94. I think theres a division of a Mustang (or other vehicle) owner and an enthusiast owner too....and yes, sometimes you do get the baffled look from the driver!!

I get it on my black one, well, usually it goes "what year is that?" Or, are you selling? Though some younger generation are starting to appreciate "our' Mustangs, a guy in a Subaru Sti chatted it up a few days ago about my car.

It's another story for my daily driver, the 94 GT, I get alot of "let's race!" on that thing, ugh....

its not a jeep wave or mustang wave its a enthusiast wave. i first saw it when i would take my mustang on long drives through the country side of NC. i would see bikers doing it. so i did it and they would return it. then i would start to recognize the same bikers out for a weekend drive. then i started noticing hot-rodders doing it. and import drivers to other import drivers. thats why you dont see your every day soccer mom throw out a wave

i thought the corvette guys started this. my parents were in the corvette club when they had their 71, and this was a part of being a club member.

i was taking my mom's 91 z28 for a spin the other day, and i got a wave from a guy in an 85 berlinetta. i waved back. don't have to worry about waving at passer by capris, there aren't any. if i see a passer by in a nice foureye i'll wave.

the jeep thing is really big around here. none of my friends can understand why everybody exchanges waves while they are riding with me.

the mustang thing is sort of occasional. the people with stock stangs 94 or newer usually wont do it. but the people with modded ones will.

The Mustang Wave started back in 1965 with the first gen.

A little family story told to me by my grandmother:
She fell in love with a 1966 Mustang. Pea green. (Family has a picture somewhere.) My Grandfather bought it for her, brand new. This was back during the whole Mustang craze since it was a game changer in the industry. People were just crazy over them.

She said it was the most amazing thing. Whenever you passed another Mustang on the road, you HAD to wave. It wasn't optional. And EVERYONE waved back. You felt like you had friends for life, wherever you went. Almost like a transformation.

Grandfather sold the car after 4 years. Grandma said she wasn't very happy with THAT.

I wave at all Mustangs and most hot rods. I get about a 50/50 reply. It makes me
chuckle when the other guy is too "cool" to wave back.

I've also had some Mustangs do a throttle blip as they passed by.

With both Corvettes and Mustangs, it has been my experience that there is no wave unless the other driver and I have cars that are either very similar in model year and trim level.

There are just so many Corvettes and Mustangs around that a person would spend all of his time waving if some limitations were not in place.

I've hardly ever been waved at in any of my mustangs; it might have happened a total of 5 times in all the time I've owned them. In my corvette however, I'd guess that 75% of other corvette drivers that see me (and I see them) wave. I think it's pretty cool, wish more mustang guys did it.

The small-Jeep wave. Gotta love it. I'm surprised at how many other small Jeep owners wave. What amazes me lately is how the people with four-door Wranglers usually don't wave. I guess they got into it for different reasons.
