Default The Capri bubble back Hatch (POLL)

Ok folks, I wanted to do a poll on the bubble back hatch on the Capri. I will use my car as an example. I have seen several replies on these message boards with people trying to encourage our Capri owners to ditch the bubble back hatch on their 83-86 cars. I wanted to do the poll just to see how many people still have hang ups about the bubble back and also to try to encourge our 83-86 Capri owners to keep their cars intact! Here it is folks, Let the debate begin!

I hope the post is not in the wrong place

It's not my thing, but I'm not sure I'd change it. They're getting hard to find, and that car is CLEAN so I'd hate to ruin that.

I'm just not much on the front or the rears of the capri's, i think they'd look better with an aero front/rear end... That's why I'd probably never buy one, too much temptation...

Is replacement glass still available for the bubble backs ? If it is, it must be expensive due to the low demand.

Just a heads up, I have no intentions of changing the hatch on my car LOL. I did this poll to encourage people with 83-86 Capri's to keep their factory hatch.

Thanx for the huge compliment Mr Joshua BTW your car is killer!

The paragraph below is taken from another post I made this morning which prompted me to do this poll. I was explaining to someone that the bubble back is what really sets the Capri apart from the Mustang. This is the reason they changed it from the flat back hatch in 83:

There are going to be a few people out there that will tell you the bubble hatch looks out of place or doesn't look good. These people have a right to their opinion but they are now in the minority IMO. A lot of people's minds have changed over the years about the Capri hatch due to the fact that in the old days nobody fixed up the Capri cars. Also the Capri's were always the first cars to end up in the junk yard because they were just "Imitation Mustangs!".
I have always favored the Capri over the Mustang. Granted with the factory ride height and a set of factory size tires the bubble back hatch does look a little tall but with the car lowered and a set of wide rims and low profile tires it completely changes the look of the car! I get people all the time saying "WOW!, I use to think the Capri was ugly, I guess I haven't seen one in a while! I think I like this better then the Mustang now, it has a more aggressive look to it."

Keep the factory hatch on your car PEOPLE!

And to answer your questions more directly, why would you change a perfectly killer car to be more like everyone else? Who cares what everyone else is doing? Do you like the car as it is? If so, keep it and enjoy the hell out of it. If not, sell it and get a Mustang, or a pre-'82 Capri.

I have to agree as well, keep the factory hatch. I don't mind the look of the bubble back but I do like the look of the pre 83 Capri. If I had a newer Capri I would not change the hatch.

For me i think it looks GREAT! Its what makes a capri, a capri. Changing it may make the overall look of the car better, but having it makes it what it is! And i think thats what it is about!

im not a fan of the bubble or the tails on the capri, but after my post of putting and 82 front on an 86 coupe i think you are going to find this board telling you to keep it since it is even more rare.

I think your car would be perfection with a normal LX/GT hatch and 93 cobra tails, but that is my personal oppinion.

Is this your way of saying no matter what the outcome of the poll is here, people don't like the bubble back hatch?

If I did this poll on a die hard Mustang board I am pretty sure you would be right, because these are the same guys that would call the Capri an "imitation Mustang" in the first place. So the reasoning behind their decision would be skewed as well.

All I can do is base my opinion off of what I hear on the street when I am driving my car to shows and cruising. As with anything there are going to be people out there that like it and people that don't. I am just saying the opinion on the Capri hatch is 10X more friendly now, then it was back when the cars first came out, whether you are willing to admit it or not.

I don't mind the hatch as it gives the car a slipperier look. I don't like the tail light treatment of the 83-86 Capri. That hatch with the ASC wing and early tail lights look good.

So early taillights will fit the lines of the late body OK? There's a guy here locally with a mint set of tails for sale, and I always liked the look of them better. Hmmmmm....

    Default bubbles

hello guys, IMO I prefer the 79-82 flat hatchers but I have owned and would not change a nice bubble to a flat car !!!!!!!!!!!! But if there were an 82 and an 83 side by side same colors and wheels for sale for the same money I would buy the flat car !!! (then go back 4 the bubble later) LOL...... Keith

I don't think they bolt up to the later body, and you'd also need the correct rear bumper to go with them

I did entertain switching to a flat hatch years ago but... I am all better now!

I don't mind the hatch as it gives the car a slipperier look.
The hatch is indeed more aerodynamic than the flat hatch.

As an owner of both hatch styles, I appreciate them both equally.

In my opinion if the car has the bubble back leave it a bubble back. They do grow on you and before you know it you'll be all better to.
