Here is mine, not what Id consider slammed, but lowered about an inch in the front, stock in the back. IMO, I dont see why a fairmont would need to be lowered any more than this.

I just cut a couple of wood blocks about an inch lower than the frame rails up front, and warmed the springs up with an acetylene torch. I plan on doing it the right way in the near future.

When i build my futura, I have it in mind to be quite lower than what is seen in the above pictures. Not sure if thats possible with the wheel wells, etc, but what i've got in mind is a real mean sporty stance, not slammed though.

My 245/45-17's up front have rubbed a couple of times, and my 275's in the back have a few times was well. I cant see a fairmont with these size wheels/tires being any lower without major rubbing. Probably get away with it with smaller wheels/tires.

For what its worth, the car also looks taller in the pictures than it does in person, Im pretty it has something to do with the lighting.

The car had yellow springs in it, i don't know the brand. I ended up putting coilovers in the front and stock 4cyl springs in the back. The yellow springs must have been 2 inch all the way around.

This is a pic of it now with 275/60's and no engine in it.

I want the car to sit low all the way around with the tires that are on it now.

If you look in the background, you will see the old springs.

Im sure those yellow ones are the cheap Ebay Maxspeed springs. I had some on the front of my old stang, they seemed alright.

I love those cars. Mine is slammed but I did it the poor man's way. I cut some coils out of the V8 front springs. I slotted the strut mounting holes and moved it down on the spindle so it had some travel before bottoming out. I moved the rear shocks out of the rear wheel well to behind the rear end and inside of the frame. I mini-tubbed it then I cut the upper spring perch down to the same diameter as a coil over spring and used them in place of the stock rear spring. The front tires will rub if you aren't careful but I've driven it that way for over ten years and have a great time doing it. There is a picture when I still had the Welds on it.

Hey, I like my black plastic stuff. I'll see if I have any pics with the tires off. It will be kind of embarassing though!

Now that I think about it, you do have your bumpers tucked in, I guess they don't look that bad. I'm still gonna get rid of the ones on mine though, I have a plain rear bumper and it looks kinda goofy with bumperettes on the front. The search for a plain front bumper continues.....

Nice job lowering that futura! I like the black trim around the windows. Did you ever think about blacking the rear trim around the tail lights? I guess to balance the front brite work and rear brite work. Either way looks great!!

Thanks. I've had the car so long that I've thought of just about every option and never went thru with it. I've driven it steady since late 1982/ early 1983 and at times I was just glad it got me to work and back! I'm collecting NOS front and rear trim parts and may try some different color schemes some day. I'm not too proud to copy someone if I think it looks cool.

Mine had stock foxbody springs all the way around, and the fronts were cut down slightly to give it a bit of rake, but the front tires would rub a bit on sharp turns even though they're skinnies. I now have an Eibach launch kit on it, so the front end doesn't sit this low any more.

One of these days I need to meet up with you Ken considering we probably live within 5 miles of each other!!!

Sounds cool to me. I'm in Orchard Ranch at San Tan and Ellsworth. There is a car show at Sanderson Ford's diner Friday from 5 until 9 that I may drive over to. I've heard about it but never gone. My buddy will probably show up in his 64 Fairlane T-bolt. He drives that car everywhere too.

I live in Will Rogers Equestrian Ranch, right by the True Value Hardware store, so we're pretty close. I can't make the car show as we're taking it out to the track Friday night because I'm trying to dial in the nitrous; its not picking up nearly enough, and the thought is is running out of gear. We're pulling the 4.10's out tonight and putting 3.73's in, so hopefully that will do it.

There's a small cafe over on Ellsworth, south of Ocotillo that does a small show the 3rd Friday of every month. Maybe we can make that some time, or the one at Sonic over on Higley they do every month.

I know Russ well. Is the show right behind Serrano's? My sister called my one evening after eating supper there and told me there was some hot rods there. Which Sonic? Higley and Germann?
