    Default Liftgate Louvers

I ran across this last weekend. OEM liftgate louvers in the box. Even has an old CF (Certified Freight) shipping label on the box. Picked it up at a "going out of business" sale, so I got it for a pretty good price.

I've always wanted to present a poll, so here we go. The best I can tell, the liftgate louvers were an option for the 79s to 84s - I didn't see them on the option list for 85 and 86.

The Question is - would you put these louvers on an 85?

They may not have been in the plans for the '85, Jerry. But I believe they are just a period correct item. I'd do it, for sure.

More in favor than I thought there would be. I like them, too. Not something I was looking for, but now that I found them...

I'll scan and post the installation instructions Monday. Interestingly enough, the installation instructions show them being installed on a 5.0 Capri. Had to go pull the louvers out of the box and put them on the car to make sure they were for the GT!

Louvers never looked right on the 85/86 for the same reasons they never looked right on the 87-93 LX's.

They look fine on 79-84 models because they are more boxy. In fact I wouldn't put louvers on any Mustang/Capri except for 79-81 models. Just my opinion.

How often do you drive your car? I had an '83 GT years ago that had rub marks in the back window from louvers. If it's a show car, I say do it.

Update - 2023 - Looking to buy 81 Mustang, 82/85/86 Mustang GT, and 79 - 86 Capri (No Sunroof). Not looking for all original/show cars or convertibles - I will be modifying. Would be nice if both were - Black Interior, PW, PL, AC, No - or very little rust. Motor/Trans/Axle not important. Options negotiable with price.

I only drive this car on nice days - not very often. But the thought of rub marks on the window did cross my mind.

I grew up with cars that had louvers, my favorite being the Boss 302. Truthfully, I didn't think that I would like them on the 85, but I think they actually look pretty good.

Also, in case anyone is interested:

Part Number: E0ZZ-6144268-A, includes part E1ZZ-19562-A Glass Prep and Primer.

Interesting observation - a note on the side of the box says to install within one year of the date shown (there is no date shown). But I think it is safe to assume that "one year" has passed.

They're past the experation date, you'll make your car sick and break out in rusty sores. Put'em on, I got a set for mine too. Most people hate them cause they rattle. I was a td confused at first when you said liftgate louvers. I'm thinking they go on a Fairmon wagon or something you had or was gonna try to make fit a notch. IT'S HATCHBACK SON!!! ANd put those suckers on there yesterday! Honestly I don't think they made them for later 4eye foxes and the the Aernose cars got the lame plastic ones.

If you do install them, make sure to buy fresh pair of shocks with a rating of 10# higher than what you are currently using. Because the louvers add weight you'll wind up getting a nice konk on the head with out them.
