Default troubleshooting the fuel door release button

I was just wondering what to look for in finding/testing for a non-working fuel door release. I press the button and nothing happens, Im guessing the button or the solenoid does not work, would that cover everything or should I look for something else?

    thanks

Mine did not work when I bought my car. It ended up being the switch. I took it apart and cleaned the contacts and it works just fine now. Now I need to adjust the latch so it locks again.

Pop the switch out, disconnect the connector from the switch and jump the 2 wires with a paper clip, see if it opens.

    Exactly.

    Mine was the switch too.

The switches used to be very cheap. I think Ford still sells them or contact FMR.

I think i'll try the junkyard, I used elec-cleaner on the switch and it kinda works now but i have to jiggle and press it 5-6 times before it'll pop
