Default Has anyone dyed cloth seats any recommendations?

I have a set of dark blue cloth buckets from a T'Bird at night they look almost black. In the sun they look dark blue. I want to dye them black. Has anyone done this? What products did you use? The results? Great, good, fair. How did the dye job wear?

Sounds like you have raven black seats. Never tried it myself but I have wanted to.

I have re-dyed cloth seats, and the end result is ok for a while, but I usually end up recovering the seats anyway. Most , if not all, of the fabric dyes in a spray can are laquer products. The color is permanent, but the seats usually end up rough and uncomfortable to sit on. I would consider a re-dye on cloth seats to be a temporary fix.

They are really nice. I have a raven black set out of a sport (same as a tc) and they are way better than a mustang seat. Now someones gonna come on here and say they are the same foam but theres NO way. They look and feel thicker than say the seats on my 85. You do have to switch the seattracks out though (atleast for a stang you do i dont know about a futura).

I have done it twice with the Turbocoupe seats. Once with the charcoal/grey and the navy/grey. Both seats were pretty faded and I wanted the grey inserts to match the rest of the seat.

The trick that I do with cloth seats is use a nylon bristle scrub brush, like a small kitchen brush, and scrub the seats in-between coats. This helps prevent the fibers from sticking and clumping together. Use light coats and and a soft but firm brush strokes and the seats will come out great. Both of the seats above were faded. The black one was nearly purple and the blue on was that wierd shade of green.
