Thread: Rear Axle Tag

  1. #1

    Default Rear Axle Tag

Hey I have an 8.8 but i'm not sure what it's from. The discs and calipers were off the rear end when I boght it, and he discs that came with it are pretty big and don't work with the calipers that also came with it.

I'm curious if anyone can decode the axle tag for me so I know either what calipers or discs I will need.

Excellent link! Hadn't seen this before. Confirms mine as the stock 28 spline 7.5 with 2.73's, at least by the tag. Still haven't marked it and counted the turns yet.

Is the 8.8 you have 4 or 5 lug. Does it have quad shock mounts?

I figured out it was a 3.27 Locker, but it's a 5-lug with rear discs. I just need to decode the date code because I need some parts for it and don't know what year mustangs to look for in the wrecking yard for parts.

I'm not sure if it had quad shock mounts or not off the top of my head.

'94-'98 axles/housing are the same. '99-'04 axles/housing are the same.
The calipers and brackets on '94-'04 interchange. The only difference is the Cobra has the taller bracket/anti-moan brackets, and larger rotors.
The calipers and caliper cages are all the same; V6/GT/Cobra/Bullitt/MACH1. Anniversary, and Bullitt calipers are just painted red.
