Default The Zephyr (banana) gets a 557.

The 1981 Zephyr wagon AKA banana gets the 557 at last. Here are some links to progress so far:

    and

    and

    It's a very tight fit.

Remaining problems: too many to list

    Top of the list:

    1) A lower A/C compressor mounting bracket. Probably for the passenger side. The truck bracket shown is 4" too tall. Sigh.

    2) A shorter distributor. Maybe 3" shorter if I can find one.

    3) I need to figure out why the struts don't stick up through the caster/camber plates. Maybe the springs are too stiff?

    Wearily,

    Tom

A fellow big block guy....cool! I'm in the middle of doing the same swap...less cubes though, and mine is more budget oriented.

Tom Wells - Dig it! What does the '57 consist of parts wise?

gofastlookstock / Tom Wells - what do either of you plan on doing for a hood? Cowl? Old style boss scoop? There has to be a clearance issue at some point with going BB.

Hopefully, they way I set my car up, I will be able to keep mine all under the stock hood. I may have to use a drop base aircleaner though.....The airhorn on my carb sits even with the pinch weld on the fire wall.

I noticed you did the spacers between the frame and the kmember. Have you thought about a certain ride height yet?

With the weight of the 460....sits about stock ride height.

Actually the K-member which is from a '91 GT Mustang, is bolted into the stock position. It has no spacers between it and the subframe.

I may not have been as specific as I could have been - the spacers I referred to are the ones that go at the upper end of each strut just under the caster/camber plates. The total is about an inch. I'm still hoping the adjustment tabs for the shocks don't hit the hood. That answer seems a long way off at the moment.

The springs are Moog, the stiffest ones I could find at RockAuto. I think they're for a wagon with a V8 and A/C. If it would help I could try to locate the part numbers. Oh, almost forgot: I banded the compressed springs to install them. I haven't taken the bands off yet!

The struts are the yellow Konis which might give a little more lift.

There's a lot more weight yet to go in, including the radiator, A/C condenser, Accusump, trans cooler, hood, exhaust back to the back bumper and of course all the fluids for the engine and trans, so I'm not real sure where the ride height will end up.

When I get most of that stuff in, I'll put up some photos.

The more immediate problem is to lower the A/C compressor and get the passenger side header interference worked out. Still working on hooking up the steering and brakes.
