Default Fuel tank - what is the plastic piece on top?

My 1981 Zephyr gas tank has a plastic piece on top - sort of looks like a place for a small vent hose to slip on? It sits in about a 1" hole inside a rubber grommet and the tank has a little raised triangle around it.

Anyone know what this is, and, most importantly where can I get a new one and a new rubber grommet for it?

Here's a picture of the tank:

The hole in the middle of the triangle is on top, under the R in SPECTRA, is the one I'm talking about. There's a plastic piece that fits in there inside a grommet. I'd like to find the grommet and the plastic piece.

    Thanks,

    Tom

That should be the tank vapor valve.

    Wrecking yard maybe?

Tank vapor valve, available from your friendly Ford dealer for not very much (like $15-20 IIRC?). Same valve and grommet were used for a long time in a lot of cars.
They can sell you the gas tank to filler neck seal too, also cheap.
I have new ones waiting to go on my tank. Way easier than crawling around and hauling one off a salvage car to save $5.

Thanks all. Just received my Ford vent valve and grommet from Laurel Mountain Mustang. It looks like the Mustang unit will be the same as the Zephyr - I'll try it next week and see for certain.

Rock Auto Parts is your friend for parts sourcing online. If you can't get it from some place local.
