I can't seem to find a 83-86 EFI fuel sender.

Could I send a plentiful 87-93 sender carcass to the fuel sender refurbisher guy and have him rebuild it with the early 83-86 specs?

Probably best answered by that company, which I will email after I post this.

Just another option that I think would make it easier to get done.

    To the original poster...

Did you ever get to test out your rebuilt sender?
    Does it work correctly?

edit: reread this page and it is answered in the 1st post! ha
    I contacted http://www.fuelsender.com/

and they say that they can rebuild an 87-93 fuel sender to the 86 and earlier specs.

I will be doing this soon.

Well, I guess 6 months is soon!

I ended up not sending in a 87+ sending unit...

I bought this from Classic instruments
    https://www.classicinstruments.com/p...oductCode=SN39

and installed the sending unit portion onto the 87+ sending unit myself with a little bit of creativity and I now have a functioning fuel gauge!

It took about a month or more for Classic to send me the sending unit, which was kind of a bummer, and the one they sent was not like what is pictured, so it was more of a challenge than I thought it would be.

I know I took pics, but I don't know if my wife deleted them or what.

    OMG!

Exactly what I wanted to do to mine when I had it apart!

I could not think of where I could get that ceramic circuit board to replace the 87+ board.

Well, if my china board fails, I know what I will be doing.

    Thanks JACook!

PS- Was this posted, because I sure don't remember it?

Just wanted to let you guys know that my sending unit has been flawless, since I got it back from S.U.R. & R exactly one year ago.

And what's also amazing is... I started this thread over a year ago.

You know what's not so amazing? My fuel gauge still reads 'E' all the time. I've not had a chance to get my sender into the tank.

    I'm glad there's a how-to now on these senders.

Good job on the writeup JACook!

I myself would go the the writeup route, but why cant a carb unit work? same size tank, and bi-metallic guages. I would think it could be used.

I found a new sending unit for my 86 gt. But it reads empty when full and half tank when empty. I was told the new ones dont send correctly to the old gauge. Can i get a link to this company who fixes them? Thanks.

There are no "new" ones unless you find a NOS unit from someone.

Where did you get it? I wish the sites trying to sell 87+ ones for our cars would fix there info.

This is the place that fixes them if you don't want to do the repair JACook posted.
