Does it have a cage? The body might be weakened a bit from all the cornering its done. My first Pace car was raced two seasons in showroom stock and the body would twist enough to make the rear hatch pull up on the loop the rear hatch attaches to.

Yea it's got a real nice cage partially installed.. The kid I bought it from was installing a speaker box system in the rear. I'm planning on pulling most of the interior first and redoing the hacked up wiring.

Very cool. That's a Kamei front air dam in the picture by the way if you wanted to get the same one for it, those are fantastic looking air dams. Very cool piece of racing history, can't wait to see this one fixed up.

    this was my first thought,too.

I think also that the white roll bars and the yellow padding kinda seals the deal on the fact you have found old history.Plus all the other little glimpses of yellow here and there....

I've been on the phone with the original owner and builder of the car.

Car was bought new in early 83. Original T-Top car..He started autocrossing it 87..

Widebody kit was hand made and installed in 88, global west c/c installed, Rancho adjustable strut bar installed, and SVO front control arms were also installed.

In 89 he had the T-top roof replaced with a solid roof, and replaced the under powered 302 with a drop in RHO 302 motorsports engine (B-cam, GT40 heads)..Trans/brakes/rear axle were upgraded in 93 to Cobra Specs.

The cage is made by Autopower. The wide wheels are made by Monocoque (16X9.5) and the wheels on it now are made by Revolution (16X7).

He still has the wide wheels and is sending them to me.. Should have them by next week!! WooHoo!!

Plans are to have it running/driving 100% this year.. and painted and racing next year.

Wow, this is turning out to be a very cool score! That car has some history. I remember seeing one other Mustang with these flares years ago in I think Hot Rod magazine. They had it as a project car and then gave it away to a lucky person. Also, I remember seeing these metal flares in the early Ford Motorsport catalogs. Keep us posted on the progress!

Look what happens when young kids get these cars(in most cases). You should show the kid the way the car looked. He might kick himself a little.

Man, what an outstanding find and very cool that you were able to capitalize on it. Even better you were able to track down the history and the wheels!!!

The old school pics look freaking hot. 83/84's are not my favorite front end (you'd never know that by my sig) but with the Kamei airdam it transforms the car.

I wish you the best of luck on the resto-mod and looking forward to seeing a build thread on this shortly. Congrats!

The thought crossed my mind. I will probably mock up some Capri bumpers on it, just to see what it looks like.
