    Default black magic capri

    ok on craiglist i found a 83 capri rs 302 auto. pics are of a black magic with t-tops. what kind of money is this worth?

    http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/cs...565015926.html

    am i wrong is it or isn't it a black magic? are black magics worth more?

    i really want a t-top capri but the price seams a little high.

    That certainly looks like a Black Magic but the 302/auto combo is wrong for any year BM. So either the auto was put in there or the seller has the year wrong and the 302 was put in there (or the seller doesn't know the difference between a 255 and a 302).

    '81 = 255/C4
    '82 = 255/C5 or 302/SROD
    '83 = 302 SROD or 302/T-5

    From the pictures it looks like an '81, but it could easily be an '82 with missing 5.0 emblems. It's only an '83 if it had the bubble hatch swapped for a flat hatch. If the car has not been modified, then it would make sense that it's an '81, with the 255 and an automatic.

    Black Magics aren't worth much, at least not yet. If you're looking for an 'investment,' then the car is probably not for you. If you don't care about your vehicle's worth, but want to drive something rare and cool, then you should consider buying it.

    Whether the $3000 price is a good deal or not, depends on the seller's definition of 'very good condition.' You'll need to go look at the car.

    Good catch on the bubble hatch. I can't believe I missed that when I was posting.

    In '80 and '81 there was one eight-cylinder engine (4.2L) and it came only with an auto (C4).

    In '82 there were TWO eight-cylinder engines. If you ordered an auto (C5) you got the 4.2L. If you ordered the manual (SROD) you got the 5.0L. No exceptions. So this BM could be an '82.

    I have never heard of an FMX transmssion in any Fox Capri or Mustang.

    Sometimes, there would be one or both "5.0" emblems on 4.2L-equipped Mustangs or Capris. Blame it on factory error.

    No, I said the 302/auto combo is not possible in a BM.

    if i was to get it i would change it to a 5 speed very fast( i couldn't stand the auto). so i think i'll give him lots of time to sit on it and maybe shoot him an offer later on.

    I just got back from looking at this. It's really a 82. The owner swapped in a 5.0 HO. Had a few aftermarket parts like carb, dizzy/cap, headers, exshaust, CD player. The good new's is that it was running not too long ago, tab's exspired in 2008. He said he had it running, but I did'nt hang around long enough to hear it run. It needed too much work for me. It would need a complete paint job. Bumper's are faided down to the yellow, the roof has some weird cracks in the paint, I think I saw some run's in the paint too. Some little rust bubble's by the windshield, ding in the rear fender. The interior did'nt look too much better, the seat showed some serious wear, the rubber door seal's are falling off, and just dirty looking. The entire car gave the feeling it had a hard life. He offered to drop the price, but it needs more work then I have time or money.
    I guess it would make a good mad max car. (yes I know that car is'nt a capri)

    how was the car as rust goes? thats what i care about? how far was he willing to go down, the problems you mention dont bother me much.

    did you look under the car? how was the pans?

    I did'nt clime under and look, but the owner claims there is no rust issues. But he also said it's in "very good condition", that it is not.
    He did do a lot of last minuet work to get it started, had to take the carb apart and use a different battery.
