It looks like it may be a Cobra because of the CBR.Please correct me if I am wrong. Also has two tone which means black on the bottom.

CBR means Cobra and if the VIN matches the VIN on the dashboard, it's a TRUE Cobra. Don't lose that tag, as it's the only proof of that distinction!

can anyone tell me exactly what the cobra package included? i know my car came with the same hood scoop as hissing cobras. but thats about all i know? What are some things that can help me certify it? the car had a hard life before it got to me and it was painted about 10 times and had alot of rigging done to it. its all right now. but idk what has been lost/gained. is there certain things that came included? i am very unfamiliar with the cobras

hey guys if your telling me this thing is a v8 two toned cobra with heated rear glass could it be some kind of an oddball? i think the interior may have been red. and the original color may have been yellow or green (found traces when prepping)

The cobras also included striping and a front air dam with rear spoiler. The cobra striping on the hood was optional though and cost an extra $80. The striping portion that I have not been able to know for sure is the word cobra on the quarter windows. From doing some reading in several of the historical books, they state that the quarter windows came with the word cobra in matching color to the pinstriping (though mine did not have them on the quarter windows). The only difference was that the canadian cobras had the word canted opposite from the u.s. models. I have not found a factory cobra from 79 and 80 that was not two-tone as well. If this is incorrect, let me know, as I am still learning about the cobras from this era.

The '80 and '81 Cobra's had the front air dam with foglights, full length cowl type hood scoop, rear spoiler and the stripe package. You're right about the hood decals being optional. The COBRA stickers were installed on the quarter windows and did match the striped decals on the sides.

On the '79 Cobra's, there wasn't a front air dam with foglights and the hoodscoop was the same as the '82 GT's. Also, there wasn't a rear spoiler on them either. The hood decal was optional but the COBRA decals were located on the front lower portion of the doors. All of them except the Black one were two toned, with Black on the lower half of the car.

Things to look for on the '79 Cobras.

    1. Three interior Cobra emblems. There will be one on each door panel and one on the dash panel's lower right hand corner on the passenger side (above the glovebox door).
    2. Engine turned dash bezels and radio bezel.
    3. Body colored sail panels.
    4. Aluminum strip that runs up the A pillars and over the doors should be aluminum and not painted Black.
    5. Cobra decals on each door and possibly a Cobra decal on the hood.

Since your car has been worked on and its appearance altered during it's 30 year lifespan, definitely buy yourself a Marti report. That will give you all the information that you will need to know about your car. Look in my Camera on my profile underneath my user name and you'll be able to see what mine looks like.

FOX i attached a pic of the vin. as well as a pic of the bucktag with the paint covering the letters and then after i lightly sanded them to bring the letters up more.

also i noticed there is a number and a letter stamped backwards out the other side of the tag. what is this? because of the depth i think it might have been done by someone out of the factory.

The early Buck Tags, both from Dearborn and San Jose assembly plants, are tricky to decipher. They're almost nothing like the later ('81+) tags. I could decode some of it now but I want to check over some other stuff first.
