    Default My 85 GT resto

well i thought i would just start up a thread on my 85 GT restoration project, im part of the way in and would like to talk a bit about it. first off i put new long tube bbk headers and the summit turbo exhaust kit on it, and then i pulled out my seats and have started to recover them. i was the little How-To post on them and it has helped alot. here are some pictures of the one i have done so far.

    the old stuff comes off-

    The old nasty seat cover-

    The new leg extension-

The bottom of the rear seat newly recovered-

i got all of the back seats finished they turned out GREAT!!! i was really impressed and they were relatively simple to do. i bought just the cloth recovering kit through LMR and i didnt buy the cushion for them i figured mine were good enough lol. but tomorrow ill try to get more pictures of the back seats put up.

To be clear, the resto topic is for stock restoration tips and information.

So far so good with the seats.

Yeah, the Body/Mechanical area are for whatever help you need with mods, etc.

This area is for restorations. Restorations are strictly about putting the car as closely back to factory original as possible.

    Default reupholstering the seats

Not to hijack! But is there any reason why your seat cushing looks so loose? Did you reinstall those rods that look like coat hanger? I did my a while back and my came out real tight just like the factory.

I didn't buy my from LRS though. I bought my from FMR. Here are a few pics of my seats. One thing i did notice is that the center grey was a bit off from the factory grey.

    original cover, before i reupholster.

new cover on the left, factory on the right.

    finished

    driverside seats installed

    passenger seats installed

yes i did install the rods back in, the reason my seats aren't tight is because the cushions are worn pretty bad.

I also restored my 85 GT seats. I am the original owner and my seats were not in bad shape. No tears. I removed all the upholstery and then washed them several times, front and back seats. I then took the seats to a local auto upholstery shop and had some foam added over the original. I painted all the frames and sliders. I then carefully reapplied the seat covers (tight fit). Seats look great. Ride a little high (new foam) but I think they will settle in. Nice seat pictures pennex2112 and xxxpaintball.
