Default want to wire in a fuse block, how do I do so?

I got the idea from some guys here, so I figured I'd post the question in this forum. I didn't put it in the tech forum, as it's not a foureyed car.

I've got my 66 mustang, and to get a key on power source, I had to tap in directly to the back of the ignition switch where the key is.

I have several things I want to tap into now for key on, and I can't draw them all off of the same source...

so to spread it out, I figured i'd use a fuse block or a relay or something. I'm not an electrical expert...so I'm not sure what to do.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Summi...Q5fAccessories

I'm looking at fuse blocks such as that. How do these work?? Do I tap in my single 12v source into the back, then that spreads it out to each fuse, or does it need a 12v in for each fuse ( so in other words, 6 twelve volt ins)??

I'm looking for a single in that spreads it out among all the fuses. It also says
    Circuit Isolating Relay Included NO
does this mean that I should tie a relay into the circuit before the fuse box??

I'll be running my duraspark box, my electric fan (which has it's own relay), my autometer tach, my modern radio, etc off of this.

thanks in advance! I'm just trying to figure out the BEST way to get a single source key on spread out to all the devices I want to run

you would definitely want a relay to run off of the ignition switch, then into the box.

You can always get a power distribution box off a late model car. I installed one off a Taurus in my Capri to give me the additional fused circuits I wanted. I think I paid something like 10 bucks for it from Pull a Part.

OK, and this would take the place of needing a relay?

could I pull one off a fox....any car?

how do i know what a power distribution block is? Is it any late model fuse box with the square fuses??

Got one similar in my car. Was about the same price. Mounted it inside car.
Hot all the time thru a 30a maxifuse block connected to hot side of starter solenoid.

One 12v common feed, spreads it out to 8 circuits.
Hot wire connects to post, accessories to the spade terminals.

you're still going to want a relay. the power has to come from somewhere, and the ignition switch is not designed to pass that much current.

Do add a relay if ignition key is to control the box (box hot, key on only).
Same idea as if one were installing fog lights, etc.
Instead of a relay switching a set of fog lights, a relay will switch the aux. fuse block.

Instead of a toggle switch controlling the relay (like for fog lights), the ignition switch can control the relay.

A big auto parts chain should have all the parts.
    RS? maybe
Nice 66-the little one looks to be thinking darn gotta wait 16 years to drive it.
Imagine the same pose when the real day comes.

If you use the key hot source from your ignition switch to power a relay, the relay coil side will draw only like .200 A, it won't hurt anything. Meanwhile, the switch side of the relay can be wired directly to the battery to supply as much as 30 A worth of current to your new accessories.

The factories(all makes) have made so many fuse boxes/relay boxes over the years, it would be impossible to say 'get this one or that one' because with a little imagination, depending on your needs, any of them can be converted to service. Do you need 10 extra fused circuits,or only 5? Do you want a bunch of relays added,or only a couple? What ever your needs dictate, you could find something that could work.

    THANKS for the response.

    I've gathered everything now

-a fused wire...to put between the ignit sw and the relay
    -a radio shack relay
-a fuse box from ebay....it's a single 12 in, with 6 fused 12 out and a grounding bar.

Ready to hook it up..as soon as I get off my lazy butt now
