    Default '84-'86 Saleen coil springs

Can someone please tell me the specifications on the originally installed '84 - '86 Saleen springs? I'd like to mimic the level stance (perfect IMO) and would like to know how much drop these springs actually provided. I seem to remember them being advertised at 1 1/2". Some of them look like they set even lower more than that. This example looks like a 2" drop:
What are the Saleen spring rates and what is the overall ride/handling quality like? Were the springs specific or progressive rated? TIA!

He could have different springs. The 4-eye next to it sits a lot higher, just by comparing wheel well gaps.

Well, it says they are Specific rate, but it doesn't specify anything other than that. Hrm.

Very cool! I didn't realize those old documents were still around. Well yeah, that answers one question...the original Saleen springs were specific rated. I've heard the cars rode a little stiff so, that makes sense. Thanks!

    Default Saleen Spring Rates

If i remember correctly, 700 pound springs in the front and 350 pound springs in the rear. I believe those rates were used on the 1984-1993 Saleens. Last time i looked, the company named H&R carried springs in those ratings. From what i've heard the quality of their springs are excellent. H&R color codes their springs, i believe the colors were bright blue and dark blue that matches the above ratings given. Can't remember which color goes with which spring (ex. bright blue = front spring ?) Hope this info helps.

Yeah, thanks! H&R is certainly a high quality spring. I don't know if they'll drop the car to the Saleen ride height without trimming the coils. I seem to remember H&R's only dropping about an inch.

If you notice the car which sits besides the 85-0021 is a convertible. 85-0021 is owned by a friend in Ill. This car is also supercharged. You may have to get shocks/struts to line up with new springs.

This is an 85: The white one is a 1986 Vert

    and some more...

The ride is a little stiff... but the handling is nice....

I have the racecraft spings in my 84, but I dont think there are any markings on them that are visible when they are installed. They are bright red in color. Most specific rate springs have the spring rate stamped in the flat of one of the coil ends. I have a 1993 saleen catalog in front of me as I am typing and they list both a specific rate, and a progressive rate spring. 1.5 inch lowering is stated along with a 25% increase in spring rate, but no actual spring rate numbers.

My wife's 85 has H&R springs on it.

Word: 90 and up Saleens have progressive rate springs.

Does anyone know what happened to this car?

It was sold to someone in San Diego and lost track of it after that.

    Thanks!

I just installed Eiibach Sportline springs in my 85 Saleen. They are a progressive rate spring and the car looks to be at the same ride height as before
