    Default My new Pace Car

Just picked this up. It's a 302, auto, non a/c. Has 64,000 original miles on it, and it's all original except for the exhaust and wheels. It came with the original TRX wheels as well, I just haven't had a chance to swap them over. Never had a spec of paint work and not a touch of rust anywhere. Still has the fully functioning 8 track player. It's certainly one of the cleanest 4 eyes I've owned, and I plan on hanging on to this one indefinitely.

I purchased it locally, but it was recently purchased by him from out of Pennsylvania.

Thanks. The Recaros aren't in the greatest of shape so I'm not sure what to do about that. The passenger seat is okay, the driver seat needs to be recovered though. The rest of the interior is flawless. Under the hood it's all stock except for 90 5.0 headers (it has a complete dual exhaust system off a 90 5.0L).

I'll post up more pics in a few.

I've decided to do something different with wheels, so these wheels and tires will be up for sale. I'll also have some nearly new Michelins and TRX's for sale.

The guy I bought the car from locally had just recently purchased it. I'm pretty sure he bought it off Ebay.

I'm uploading more pics right now.

    Thanks guys. New pics added.

So what has everyone been doing about the factory recaros? Mine need to be redone, or I'm considering swapping them out for something else.

Good score. So that's what the HVAC control head looks like without a rear defroster switch. Gotta love the 8 track stereo - make the car even more unique.

Now if you could just find some Recaro mid section cloth to re-upholster your seats. It's the weak link in any Pace Car. The fabric just didn't hold up over time if the car was driven regular, or even semi regular. My guess was that the Recaro seats were never validated, from an engineering stand point, by Ford prior to the release of the car.

Very nice car. It has similar options to mine when original (except mine has the hi-tech cassette tape instead of the 8-track).

    What's your plans for it?

That's a good question. So far I've decided on a 5 lug conversion, and new seats of some sort. Aside from that, a good detail job, and probably upgrade the suspension.

I've got a really newbie question for you guys. that pace car seems like a real gem. kinda rare? if it's that much original, i.e. 8-track, recaros, TRX's, nice paint, etc. wouldn't that stuff add to the value? and if you take that stuff off and put aftermarket stuff in, does that depreciate any resale value of the car?

    Just curious

BTW, awesome ride! best of luck no matter what you do with it!

I'm a true sucker for original cars with original parts. However, I also believe in improving on what's there, without changing the core of the originality. By that I mean, improving the brakes and suspension doesn't alter the appearance much, and it's all reversible. As for the seats, I'd love to have them recovered to original, but financially it's just not an option...And, as long as I keep the originals, I can always switch back. Aside from the seats, I'm not touching the interior. The powertrain is staying original as well. The body, not going to touch it. I LOVE original paint cars. I like the "petina" that exists on original paint. It tells you everything about the car and how it was taken care of. It hides nothing.

Everything I have planned for it is easily reversible. Besides that, I only paid $5000 for this car (with two sets of wheels/tires). With the plans I have for it, I can't imagine it being worth a penny less once I'm finished. So at current market, I personally feel that no, changing those parts won't have any effect on it's value. In the future, who knows. At this point though, there is a plethera of stock unmodified Pace cars out there, modifying mine to a very reasonable degree, certainly isn't going to have an effect on anything.

I do see both sides of the argument, but for me, I like to make "improvements".
