I think I have one of the last 3550's in my GT. I know soon after I bought it they stopped selling it and only marketed the new TKO's. Kinda made me feel like I was getting some old junk. I got it for a great price and it shifts great so I cant complain. Here's the pics of my trans.

I know a buddy with an early TKO that needs a few gears. Was thinking of buying it off him and trying my hand at rebuilding it for a future project.

that's a late model 3550 for sure, judging by the main case. don't feel ripped off, early tkos had shifter lug machining problems that made it impossible to get the trans into 3rd gear when trying to shift quickly.

go for it! pick up your friend's 3550. these transmissions come apart a lot easier than t5s. liberty's gears can get you set up with whatever you need. i posted up a link previously in this thread to a download-able rebuild manual

Been seriously thinking about it. I think it'll need about $200 in gears. I'm hoping to get it for $400-500. It already has a Pro 5.0 shifter and a new set of synchros(not installed). Trouble is that the trans is in a million pieces in a box. The IPB diagrams I've seen in the rebuild manuals are quite poor resolution. Piecing it back together is going to be treat.

well, confirmed last night my trans doesn't like to powershift over 6k, thank you rev limiter! around 5800 it seems just fine.

chris, how has your 3550 been since you cut every other tooth off the blocker rings?
