Trying to find out what non-cruise steering wheels were available on the '84s.

Here's my fave, and a big reason I bought my car. Since I don't have cruise control the car came with tilt wheel (which is why it looks a bit cock-eyed).

Did they not come with cruise and tilt?

That is a nice looking wheel. There is one on e-bay with a buy it now of more than I willing to pay. I may think differently tomorrow though.

Pretty sure I'd read on here that if the car had cruise you couldn't get tilt. Someone jump in and correct or verify please!

Yeah, that's my favorite ford wheel of all time right there.

My car has cruise and tilt but based upon the wiring harness had wondered if it wasn't a dealer installed item.

You could get cruise or tilt, or both, or neither.

There were two wheels: one with 'real' stitching and one with 'molded' stitching.

Thats the same wheel that came in my 85 non-GT conv. Molded stitching still have it buried in the basement.

    Only two wheels?

My GT has the wheel below and I hate it. Wanting something a little more sporty.

Actually there were three non-cruise wheels, all with the same shape:

SVO -- Real leather with real stitching

GT -- Imitation leather with simulated stitching

LX -- Plain molded with no stitching

The GT also had a more elaborate center emblem on the horn button than the plain Ford oval on the LX & the SVO was imprinted with "SVO". I think the same LX & GT wheels were used on the Capris with a cougar emblem.

E-BAY prices I have seen range from $50 for the LX wheel to $300 for the SVO.

Looks cool! I have a 8 grand Turbo Mustang tach in my Capri with a Ford Motorsports 140 Speedo, they are correct for the 79-82 clusters but I would like a this setup in my 86 Vert...

bobvicki: Thanks for the correction on the steering wheels.

allenpul & floodstang: That cluster might look like it's from an SVO but it's not. It's the OEM '84 Turbo GT cluster with gauges from two different SVO clusters. The car's previous owner (mb84gt) bought that TURBO gauge from me over two years ago.

There were 5 non-cruise steering wheels for 1984:

E4ZZ-3600-A SVO, 3 SPOKE LEATHER WRAP
E4FZ-3600-B BLACK W/FOAM WRAP WITH CENTER BLOW
E4DZ-3600-L BLACK 2 SPOKE WITHOUT CRUISE
E4ZZ-3600-B 3 SPOKE SMILEY WITHOUT CRUISE
E3FZ-3600-B 4 SPOKE FOAM WRAP WITHOUT CRUISE

There were also 4 more with/without cruise
    E3FZ-3649-E BLACK EMBLEM TYPE 16
    E3ZZ-3600-V BLACK 4 SPOKE W/ LEATHER WRAP
    E5DZ-3600-P BLACK 2 SPOKE LUXURY
    E5ZZ-3649-A BLACK EMBLEM TYPE 20

So, there was a total of 9 steering wheels for 1984, 2 of which had a superceded number (replacement most likely). Wacky? I thought so.

I have never seen an '84 non-cruise wheel with two spokes. For that matter, I have never seen any early Fox Mustang or Capri non-cruise wheel with less than three spokes.

I have never seen an '84 non-cruise wheel with a four spokes. To my knowledge that was only used in '83.

There's one 2 spoke non cruise on eBay right now:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/STEER...Q5fAccessories

The auction says '85/'86, but it's an '84 wheel.

Yeah, I've seen that wheel before but never (factory-installed) in a Capri or Mustang.

And that part number you listed for a non-cruise, 2-spoke wheel says it was originally engineered for an '84 LTD (E4D). Same thing for the cruise, 2-spoke wheel, except it was for an '85 LTD (E5D).

As a point of reference, and to illustrate how things have changed, how many steering wheels are available on the 2010 Mustang?

    I kinda like that wheel.

When you replace it, sell this one to me ---- though it probably wont work on my '80.

Nope, you'd have to swap to the 84+ steering column.

Yep, quite odd. But that's what the master parts book shows. Many of these wheels were interchangeable minus the horn pads.

    Probably a couple hundred.
