Thread: Idle issue

    Default Idle issue

I just noticed a weird Idling issue. At a redlight, stop sign, etc, the car will idle at 500-1000rpms... Like back and forth... It sounds like its going to die, but right before it does, it kicks back up to 1000-1200rpms. It doesn't do it at initial start up. Even if i let it sit for a while, at idle. Any ideas as to what causes this and how to repair it?

It's an 86 Mustang gt/lx. Basically stock, The only engine modification is a fender mount intake. Only has 73,000 miles on it. Any ideas? Thanks guys.

Could by a dirty Idle air control. Take it off the throttle body and clean it out with carb cleaner.

Cap/rotor is next on the list. Thanks guys. I'm also in the process of gathering my parts for the MAF conversion....

I cleaned the IAC but haven't had a chance to drive it again. It's intermittent so I can't really pinpoint it.

My coupe does the same thing sometimes. Glad I saw this thread for a reminder. I've been meaning to clean the IAC for a while now.
