Default 79 Pace Car - pulled from storage...

Well my Pace Car has been stored at my parents house for many years. I used to drive it, auto-x, and open track time trials back in the 90's (it's the pic in my avatar). It's been officially off the road since ~2002.

So I usually pull it out of the garage a few times a year to start it up and let it run for a bit. Here is an old shot, but this is how it's stored (I now use a car cover under the heavy drop cloth to keep the dust off it):

Well here are some pics of the car out of storage taken this weekend. Light wasn't the greatest. First set:

Second set, at a nearby lake:

    Enjoy!

Cool, thanks for posting them up.

Was the car bought without the dealer installing the decals or were they taken off, or was the car repainted?

Hey Bob, I removed all the decals when I was prepping the car for paint (circa 1991).

Engine and Interior (old pics, but nothing has changed):

I should have done a quick video of the car running, but I was in a hurry to get on the road and back home. Maybe next spring...

Yup, Konis on the front along with FMS "C" springs on all 4 corners, 93 cobra disk brake rear, urethane bushings on the front sway bar and in the rear control arms, Kenny Brown welded in cross sub frame connectors....

I was so close to putting a cage in this car for open track events/time trial style events , but in the end I didn't want it to get destroyed. So I stopped racing the car. I still have the cage in the basement.

Oh, yes this car was originally an auto, but that got swapped with a Tremec 5 speed

    Thumbs up

Man, it's a shame you don't drive that beauty more often...car looks really good without the decals. BTW, do you have wheel spacers on there? the tires look really close to the fenders compared to my 82 with the TRX on it. are they 220 or the 190 profile?

    That's a great looking car.
What is the vincode ? I'd like to add the car to my personal registery of 1979 Pace Cars.

I had 89 GT wheels and tires on my Pace car too. They look like they were made for each other. My first pace car was raced in the showroom stock series in 80+81 by its first owner. I was the 3rd owner. Look at the floor under the drivers seat for cracks where the seat bolts in. Mine cracked and had to be welded.

Never seen one without the decals - very clean and mean.

Cool that it has such a history with you. Any plans for it in the future?

I'll drive it again in the future, I just have too much on my plate right now...

No wheel spacers are used. The 93 cobra disk brake 8.8 rear has a wider track than the original 7.5 drum. And the TRX's are the 220's (I know they're not stock, but I think the actually fill out the openings a bit better).

I ran this car with the turbines for years. I remember seeing a PC around Allentown, PA years back with the turbines and at the time I thought it looked really good, so I bought a used set. However I no longer have the turbines, they sold along with my 84 vert a few weeks back.

Yes, the floor pan was cracked when I bought the car. In fact it had the "red-neck fix"; road sign over the cracked area and someone cut the seat mounting bracket . That's all been fixed with a donor section floor pan that I welded in prior to installing double hump SFC's....
