Default My LTD LX hits the road course!

I'm currently in a hotel near California Speedway. Spent the day doing a NASA track day and will be back for more tomorrow.

Before I got to the track, I noticed my recently installed Cobra steering rack had a small leak. I put in some stop leak and I thought it had stopped leaking, but half way through my first race session, the power steering started cutting in and out. It was pretty friggin scary. Since I knew there was no way to stop the leak, I just drained all the p/s fluid out and have been driving all day with manual steering. I definitely have to replace the rack, and I'll probably have to replace the pump too.

So I've had to manhandle the car around the track. Thank god none of the turns are all that tight, but it's still a friggin challenge.

Also my electric fan controller started acting up and my car was overheating. Had to wire the fan directly to the battery and just plug/unplug it manually.

Despite that, I'm having a blast. I've only had maybe 3 or 4 cars pass me all day and I've been keeping up with or beating the pants off a lot of cars that should be way faster than I am. Had a new 335i spin out right in front of me.

Look at me having to wrestle the steering wheel in the last pic (one of the most difficult corners to drive without p/s). Good times.

Video! Apologies for the quality. My little point and shoot Canon camera can only do so much.

Wrong video link. Try this: http://www.facebook.com/v/1073449730032

One of the rack seals on the Cobra rack apparently just let go and dumped all of the fluid in the boots. Since there was no way to reseal the rack at the track, I just drained all of the fluid and manned up to drive it with manual steering.
