I remember those and saw one in person something like a million years ago. I'll see if I can find one of the ads for them in the massive stash of magazines.

It's very cool seeing these of-the-era type mods showing up. Seems that most of them have disappeared, and that's a shame. The aftermarket of years gone by is just as much a part of our collective automotive history as anything else.

I seem to remember Hurst making those, but I can't be sure. Several years ago I worked in a speed shop that had catalogs going back to the '60s & we used to look at them & some of the stuff they made back then. I know I saw that thing in one of them.

Yeah, I have old issues of MM&FF with ads for those. I think they even did an installation in one of their body modification editions. The window was removable. If gdniel or evlgt85 can't find anything, I'll look through my issues and do some scans.

I remember seeing those in a magazine circa 1995. I believe there was an install article in MM&FF , too. I'll see if I can find one. I know that the removable window is not glass.

I got some mags from storage today, but I don't know if I grabbed the one with the article. I'll look tonight or tomorrow morning.

    Nice detail pictures.

I would think it would look very strange, how the insert is flat, and the hatch without the wing would just slope off at a different tangent.

It would be strange for sure.

    Exclamation FOUND THE NAME

I found some info in the January 1995 issue of MM & FF in the Product Showcase section.

It's called The SportBack made by AutoEx, inc.

    I'll find the article, yet...

While I hate the ones in the other thread this one kinda grows on me, and the rarity bit rocks the world!

never knew about these..I might have seen the ads back in the day..but I can NEVER recollect ever seeing one in person. I would say the rarity factor makes it cool, even if you don't care for the look. Also never knew of the option on the Firebirds...I guess when you limit yourself to one body style(I guess two with a 'vert)(GM), the competition has a built in advantage(Ford). I guess it isn't much of a point, because Ford did the same thing in '94....

Its a thread that has the same basic idea on a nissan 240 sx (aftermarket) and I posted about the 88 gta which had a similar deal as a stock option for that year...

I have seen the GTA's in person and dont care for the look at all, but I like the way yours seems to flow and the fact that I have never seen on like yours builds the cool factor 100%.

The fact that its an actual aftermarket part and not something that was done in billy bobs garage with baler twine, welder and fiberglass from the auto zone.

This and the fact that this was era specific for the car combined make it a real head turner!

    Congrats
